It’s never been laid out crystal clear, but again my impression from the reporting around this MLE situation has always been that Lebron would have been willing to take the large paycut to open up the full MLE for one of those targets. Not that it would require also salary dumping DLo.

I do like Nick Richards that @abeer3 mentioned; there isn't many other options.

Just looking at the Cleveland Cavaliers roster and they haven't done s***. Caris LaVert has an expiring deal for $16 million dollar expiring. He's more of a 2/3. Haven't saw his game in years. Know he does get injured.

On Kuzma, he’s not a perfect fit. Rui’s scoring punch and three point shooting (although streaky) is probably a better fit for us offensively. BUT, I think Kuzma has more defensive versatility and a much better rebounder, so at the end of the day I think Kuz would help us more than Rui.

But yeah, he’s not as much of an improvement for me to feel good about giving up a FRP, yet alone the 2 FRPs that Washington apparently wants.

And Washington probably doesn’t want Rui back, so you’d be looking at a trade around DLo. But then you’re left with a logjam at forward and would be difficult to juggle minutes between Kuzma, Rui, and Vando

There just isn't much out there right now.

I'm looking at rosters and unless these asking prices come down or Rob comes out of something in left field, we're running it back, IMO.

This was my read on that situation as well. I think the trades we were looking at during that time was to free up roster spot, not salary dumping DLo

I’m fine missing out on some of the bigger names we’ve been linked to. The price was just too high. We do need to get some kind of brusier to take on the big guys like Joker but I’m not sure anyone is left that is going to move the needle. I’d rather keep our assets for a bigger move down the line than trade some of them away to get incrementally better this year.

I'm sitting back wondering this: what the heck is Cleveland doing? Boston, NY, Philly are all clearly better than them. There's also Orlando, the Heat, and Indiana. They won't surpass those teams within the next 2 years, right (Boston, Philly, NY)? Given that they just signed Mitchell, I think they have almost to make a move with Garland especially if they come out the gate struggling.

    Something to monitor...

The word on the street is that Okoro might be available for the Cavs.

Lakers are stucked as an above average to good team in the league .

Improvements will have to come from within , Austin/Max/Knecht

Others players are who they are at this point

i think that was the impression lots of people got from the way it was reported, but the wording from rich paul was careful and did not exactly say that, iirc. i think we were trying to make other moves and limit the amount that lebron would have to cut.

derozan flat out said he wouldn't take a big cut himself.

but thompson took 3/50 from dallas. why did we offer dlo and 4/80 instead of just the full 4-year mle? the latter is more guaranteed money than dallas's deal--which will almost certainly be his last one. this part has me confused. i guess thompson could be very optimistic and think that he's going to get an above-minimum deal at 37 years old, but...i'm not sure even he believes that.

we don't know which other contracts we were trying to dump during this time frame. people are assuming it was minimums, but i'm not so sure.

anyway, i'll grant that maybe lebron was indeed willing to shave 25 million off his salary. if lebron himself isn't upset about it, that's a strong indicator that the front office tried to pull these things off and people didn't/couldn't/wouldn't play ball with us. so there's not much reason for the fans to be upset about it, either, right?

yep. and i think rob successfully explained this to lebron. again. which is nice for everyone, tbh.

what's the thing you'd have had him do? which player or players that changed teams did we need and which player or players on our roster would go for them? would you have given the two unprotected firsts plus two rotation players for jerami grant? kuzma? dlo (plus draft capital for salary absorption) for derozan or thompson?

we had bad options this summer. maybe the landscape improves come december--february. maybe it doesn't. like two years ago, i'm glad we didn't sell out all hope for the future for marginal upgrades, as cookie mentioned above.

I have seen the error of my ways, if my boy can recover :)Laugh:) from his back surgery, I can see a standard sophomore jump in his play

While everyone was hoping for moves before now, I actually think Pelinka is a helluva GM. We'll know that more than ever after Lebron is gone and we are building in more traditional ways.

I feel like he should be working to get rid of the min guys currently but I am guessing he doesn't want to as he is planning to include one in a bigger trade. So we are in a legit holding pattern.

my optimism says he has already mapped out some options for dumping guys should a FA become available that would really help us, but that as you said, he's holding onto them until trade possibilities are exhausted. that point has to be coming soon, and there are some interesting FAs that might become available at tpmle and vet min. for example, if paul reed became available at tpmle, we could dump reddish/hayes/lewis into someone's space and sign him, i think.
