    That's gross franchise malpractice.

They'll need to deal Vuc by the deadline to secure the tank.

I wonder what happens with LaVine if you can't move him. How did this report come out this week and you pretend all is well?
    Screenshot_20240706_234605_Chrome.jpg

Rich Paul came out and threw water on it a couple days ago, probably trying to salvage any trade value his client has. But if nothing happens I wonder what his role looks like there on a clear tanker and if they consider putting him on the shelf until a trade presents itself.

Irwin has framed it well on his pod and I think he's written and tweeted similar. Basically he's too good for a tanking team, he'll win you some games. Plus most of those teams have young guards they're trying to showcase. Then on the contenders, he's not good enough to trade for when you know he'll turn into the playoff pumpkin. It's a really tricky limbo.

He's more valuable to us as a player than he is most other places. The only team who's had continued interest in him from last season and this summer has been the Nets.

I agree, i'd dump one on Detroit or Utah before they reach their salary floor. But i think the hope is to attach one to whatever larger trade we're trying to pull off so you don't have to pay for the PO mistakes from last summer.

Also what hurts is you can no longer stack minimum contracts. We can't trade two of them in one trade thanks to the CBA that I know the players didn't read before signing off on. So best bet would be one of the 3--Wood/Hayes/Cam, top 40 protected second and $2 million cash. Even then does Rob want to have to explain to Jeanie why she's having to write a check for a mistake he made last summer?

I was trying to look into this the other day, and I think we only have 3 tradable second round picks based on this (2025, 2030, and 2031): https://basketball.realgm.com/nba/draft/future_drafts/team

So while I’m sure we could attach a second to Cam to convince some cap team to absorb his salary, we can’t be TOO open with our second round draft capital.

We might need to keep those second rounders to sweeten up a package for a more substantial improvement.

Rob is probably still hoping he can find a 2-for-1 or 3-for-1 deal that reduces salary, improves the team, and clears roster spots.

^Thanks for the responses. Better hope for a deal that has a 2 for 1 or a 3 for 1.

I know some are going to hate for him for not taking a larger paycut, but I’m pretty appreciative of this. He’s basically paying for the FO’s inability to find an effective/timely way to clear one of our useless minimum players.

It’s LeBron. People will hate no matter what he does.

    Takes Max
“Look at him. Doesn’t want to win.”

    Takes 3M Less
    “3M?! He doesn’t need money.”

    Signed for the Vet Min
    “HE’S STACKING THE DECK!”

I thought a $3M paycut might bring us enough under the second apron to potentially make a veteran’s minimum signing, or a Cam/Hayes/Wood salary dump away from being able to use the TPMLE

But not even really close to that

At least we’re officially under the second apron to buy time and maintain optionality while exploring trades.

"As Anthony Irwin notes (this is isn't about insider info), if the Lakers can shed the 3 minimum contracts that opted in, we would have access to the TPMLE. In addition, we cannot take back more salary in any trade as an over the 1st apron team. Just keep that in mind when constructing trade ideas. Cannot take a penny more in salary in ANY trade."

    From LG.

Man, this new CBA is nuts.

I don’t understand how these new tight restrictions on trades improve the League. I understand their March for parity, but this isn’t the way.
I feel like we already are at a pretty well balance of talent throughout the League.
It’s more about still having a lot of really bad owners causing their own downfall than player movement stacking teams.
We had NINE legitimately good teams with a chance to win last season.

I don’t think we are going to make a real trade anymore. It will be something to dump a player or two.

If DLO is gone, I'm suddenly interested in Gary Trent Jr.

NBA hates DLO and Rob. They also hate the Lakers (to a smaller degree), so Jeanie needs to either sell the team, to a guy who doesn't care about $ or at least hire a guy like Myers to run the FO. We can't be wasting time every summer, hoping a disgruntled star demands a trade here. Those days are over.

I have to say I think this is the right way to construct a team under the new CBA. 2 max players that are in the top 10-15 best players in the league, surrounded by 3-5 players that are above or around the MLE plus a ring chasing vet or two that perform above the minimum.

The trick to renewing the team is being able to pick up those ring chasing vets here and there, prudently signing vets to fair contracts and drafting well enough so your picks can grow into the next set of MLE players like Reaves and maybe Christie will become.

Our problem is our 4-8 guys just haven’t worked out so well:

    - DLO is a good regular season player that has issues in the post season
    - Rui just hasn’t hit the levels you’d hope
    - Gabe has been injured and is he a one playoff wonder?
    - Vando only plays one side of the ball
    - Christie has to prove himself.

As an example, things would look different if we had Tyus Jones, Herbert Jones & Brook Lopez instead of Gabe, Rui and Vando.

    DLO / Tyus
    Jones / Reaves
    Lebron / Christie
    AD / Wood
    Lopez / Hayes

It’s a similar payroll, but I think we are a considerably better team defensively and from the 3.
