I think Lavine is an interesting candidate. Can you get a 1st for him? If so, a healthy Zach at 60 games is a definite upgrade but he also has that contract that is 43, 46 and 49 over the next 3 years.

Kessler is also an interesting pickup at 3m. We could theoretically trade DLO, Gabe and Rui for Lavine and Kessler. We throw in a second to Chicago and they send a first to Utah.

    Reaves / Dinwiddie
    Lavine / Christie / Knecht
    Vando / Reddish
    Lebron / Wood
    AD / Kessler / Hayes

It’s not great but we do improve slightly.

True, and if you do open up the opportunity to use the TPMLE and Trent is the best player available willing to take that money, you might as well do it to replenish your tradable salaries. Especially if this is after you just sent out a package like DLo, Rui, and Gabe for Lavine and don’t really have many remaining non-minimum salaries to trade.

For example, you can choose to bring Knecht into the rotation slowly, start the season by giving those minutes to Trent to try to pump up his trade value. And then maybe come December you can package Trent and JHS for a big man to balance the roster. Maybe Sarr is doing good enough for Washington that they’d do something like Trent, JHS, Wood, and a second rounder for Valanciunas

I am not sure about sending a 1st for Kessler. You can't play him next to AD, so why burn a 1st on a 10-15mpg backup? We need to work on the basics first before adding luxury options.

With Knecht, I just don't see Lakers acquiring Trent. Lot of money to spend for a similar player that you have on a rookie deal that maybe significant better < crossing fingers>

Lakers can’t send ANY draft capital. They need to accumulate draft capital. Taking on Grant and Lavine would do that. And might help elevate talent as long as D’Lo isn’t in the deal. Lakers do not have a point guard who can shoot that would come in.

Yeah we probably could put that idea to rest. Just thought I'd mention due to the Klutch connection. Kind of Lonnie walkerish type signing. But knecht and Max need their burn for sure.

lavine only of bulls send a pick. Probably distant 1st but imagine getting the 25 first? Would be great. Bulls FO a train wreck so you never know.

Interesting take on AD. Ironically, Bulls could be landing spot for him. He might ask for a trade soon. Think about it, the Lakers didn't hire the coach he wanted, and the one they did hire doesn't particularly like non-shooters. Also, AD has been b****ing for a center, and so far, they have not got him one.

To be clear: my suggestion was based on a few facts—

    1. we can only improve via trade
    2. Lavine is on the market
    3. lavine is Klutch
    4. Chicago has offered a 1st to dump him
    5. Utah has cap space
    6. Chicago wants to trim salary
    7. Utah has peddled Kessler for two picks

one protected pick from us and one from Chicago gets all three teams things they want.

I like Kessler as AD's eventual replacement. Not so much to play along side of him. But, Kessler is not a drop off on defense from AD in terms of blocking shots, and he does match up better against Jokic than AD does. AD is like a porcelain doll, we don't need that. Ship his a** out. But I get AD is Klutch, etc. So in that context, I guess I would give up a 1st for Kessler. But we cant be too picky, AD is still a star player, and nobody wants to play for us... I warmed up to getting Kessler as our backup 5, until he transitions into our starting 5 in 1-2 seasons from now.

According to Irwin and Buha today, they both talked about the LaVine option today. I get this feeling that if the Blazers or BK deals come down, it may be an option we explore. I refuse to believe that both of the reporters mentioned above (being nice to Irwin) happened to mention this by coincidence.

I wouldn't do it, and according to Irwin, there's skepticism around the league if Chicago would include a 1st round pick unless we add something of value back to the Bulls. I'm not a fan of this move; I know the cap is going up by 10 percent year over year, but I'm concerned about his injury history. Availability is everything and he's had nothing but issues.

According to Buha, there's a framework with Portland & Brooklyn. The Lakers are just haggling over the picks.

WTF man …. step away from your pretend GM roll …. thank god you’re not. As long as our highly talented stars are still THAT we don’t rush to ship them out and move on considering how hard it was to come by them in the first place following Kobe. If Kessler doesn’t happen to play well alongside AD he would still help to take a lot of load off. But he didn’t look all that hot and was part of the reason “Big man wise” in comparison to other countries’ centers in FIBA that we lost.

You’re not sending a first, you’re sending Chicago a second and they’re in turn sending a first to Utah.

I doubt Chicago sends a first to get rid of Lavine. Since they’re blowing it up, most likely they can just play him if he is healthy to rehab his value. So we send them a second to make them letting go of that first a bit easier.

I don’t Utah or anyone really wants DLO, Gabe or Rui enough to take all 3 for nothing. So they probably want a second for that and another second for letting Kessler go. So imagine then Chicago’s first goes to Utah.

From our side we condense Gabe, Rui and DLO for Lavine and Kessler and pay a second rounder to make it happen.

Lakers out: DLO, Gabe and Rui + a 2nd rd pick
    Lakers in: Lavine + Kessler

    Chicago out: Lavine
Chicago in: LA 2nd (maybe one of our 3 players if they want to keep one)

    Utah out: Kessler
Utah in: DLO, Gabe and Rui + Chicago 1st rd pick

I can't really see any scenario, where we send out 3 PG, without getting one back. A Dinwiddie/Reaves starting backcourt would be ugly.

Chicago has a top10 protected pick to Spurs that turns into top8 protected the 2 following years.
So basically this is the perfect time for them to suck really bad for 3 years, clear books and start over. But it wouldn't make sense to send picks for that, because it's exactly what they need for the future. I think they will definitely sell during the off-season.

On Kessler, he's going to get +25m per and I'm not sure I want to be the team paying it. He's nice but more a defensive anchor which is limited offensively. I don't want to commit big bucks for long years before we know how we pivot post Bron
