Fair counter. But you have to stress a team like SA threatening to poach and structure a deal that can really make us pause. Or you have to get ahead of them even hitting FA like we did with Max and maybe overpay. You also have to make a decision before you have a large enough of a sample size to make a decision, as we did with Max. That was on Ham for being dumb but there are potential scenarios where the guy is just rightly buried on the depth chart.

i think these 8 million dollar deals are kinda thrown around like candy these days. we'll see if someone gets burned for it, but clearly gms just don't think it's that big of a deal.

but yeah, you have to make a decision earlier--but so do the would-be poachers. people got gun-shy on reaves, and we knew more than them. also, those poison pill deals have bitten the teams that used them in the past, imo. morey ended up having to pay to get off both lin and assik (after everyone declared him a super genius for using the cap magic to get them, btw).

so yeah, i'm kinda ok either way. i just don't think we've been burned by the two-years yet. just seems like something that became a reason to say "rob can't work the small stuff". i disagree. there are advantages and disadvantages to the structure, but it's worked pretty well for us.

edit: one other thing: to give more than two years to a second rounder, you have to dip into an exception. a lot of the people who latch on to this stuff seem to not understand that. speaking of, i'm interesting in how we even offered bronny a 4-year deal given our proximity to the apron...

I just prefer a cheaper cost controlled asset for as long as possible during these final Bron years, while we're struggling that juggle. Kicking the can until we have more financial options post Bron

is that new? i always thought second rounders had to be signed to a maximum of 2 years unless you used an exception.

    ah, this explains my confusion:

    upload_2024-7-3_13-34-27.png

    it is indeed new.

Great signing. We got a guy that has good upside to develop into a lock down defender and has a skyscraper for a chip on his shoulder. Long live the youth movement. Commitment, I like it. I can't believe some of you are doubting jjs sincerity.

To me the upside is that didn't really get to show what he could do in college so some of it is the unknown. After his health issue I doubt he was ever 100% physically or mentally. Bronny is young enough he could develop into a solid player. He is strong so that negates some of the height issue. Watch how he bodies up players and anticipates passing lanes. I'm not saying he will be a great player but to completely discount everything he has done seems short sighted to me. Player development is a real thing and what it appears we are gearing up to do. There is something beneficial to every player. Coach has to recognize it and bring it out. Jj wants to do that.

He may or may not but fortunately it isn't for you to say. You have proven your scouting abilities are lacking with your Max evaluation...lol. I realize some fans are in the crapper because of Ham but the sun is shining again. We have good young talent and a bright future. Keep up the good work with your podcast.

Athletic genes is worth the 55th pick even a 31st…kid is being hated for no reason not only here. I’ll take a flyer on this kid even if LeBron wasn’t here. He’s built like a tank although he doesn’t have the heart of JHS…

I hate the people who run the Lakers and Lebron James is a cancer off the court.

That’s fine, I don’t think anyone here likes them either. But we have to give the kid a chance, right? He looks athletic and with an NBA looking body already, maybe he can learn a skill or two to be a productive player. Find a niche here or somewhere else

They’re in a good range … he looks well put together. Not as bow legged from the knees down as Pops. Kobe was kind of like that too below the knees (LeBron).

Yes that’s the description. He just needs to learn a viable skill like becoming a defensive specialist

Was hoping he stays off social media but from one of his short interviews on media day seems unfortunately that isn’t the case. It’s always 50% ugly and personal from really nasty people, why subject yourself? Maybe learned from Pop to care. Maybe it fuels some people to be able to say f*** you at the end of the day when you prove everyone wrong. Reaves has said as much.
