In terms of actual cap space
    Screenshot_20240702_093433_Chrome.jpg

That doesn't account for what over the cap have their options left -- NTPMLE, TPMLE, Room, BAE.

Currently here's who has what regarding those:
    https://www.spotrac.com/nba/cap/exceptions

That doesn't account for potential roster gymnastics where a team can trade x to get to the NTPMLE or superstar y can take a paycut to get access to NTPMLE

that simply wasn't happening this summer for us. we didn't have enough assets even if we threw the full house at them, and cleveland wasn't interested in trading anyway, which they insisted the whole time.

yeah, that's garbage. i'd rather do absolutely nothing. seriously. finney smith is two years past when he could have been useful to us. again, taurean prince was a better player last year at 1/3 the cost.

i don't think we're in on markkanen. SA can outbid us easily, and ainge---while willing to work with us--doesn't want to give us a piece of that magnitude at almost any cost, imo. also, i really don't see why utah isn't just finding a way to re-up markkanen for themselves. he hasn't asked out and has actually expressed an interest in staying, right?

i think our utah talks are about sexton for dlo with us giving them goodies to make it work. luckily, i feel like that deal isn't affected by all the markkanen stuff, but it's a lateral move at best and a potential downgrade from dlo.

same with any grant move, and i'm wondering if our talks with brooklyn are all cam johnson, and we're seeing who lowers their price on grant/johnson first. that's a dangerous game, as i'm sure both teams are talking with a bunch of others about moving those guys.

Not saying the moves were great or even how the ownership handled the George situation, I can appreciate how as soon they saw George was gone they started attacking plan b or c and building out the rest of their roster.

yeah, they definitely picked an identity (defense, i'm jealous) and leaned into it with djj and dunn.

they have tucker's contract to move for some help, too, if they can find it. if kawhi's on the floor, they won't be as bad as people think. but their ceiling is now like, the 6 seed instead of a title.

Yeah, that wasn't clear on my part. I don't think we are even thinking Lauri. We don't have the pieces. But I think Ainge might be waiting for that to play out before he does fringe stuff OR decides their direction -- build what you've got or use the 5 picks I'm sure he wants for LM and rebuild... again.

They were actually trying to get a lot better this year. They were trying for Bridges and PG. But Ainge saw what Bridges netted and can't help himself. Little leprechaun at heart.

Sexton doesn't interest me unless you get more stuff with him. They have a few guys on the roster I like.

beyond kessler? i'm not really interested in a clarkson reunion.

i suppose i'd consider gabe and rui for collins simply because collins is expiring and probably as good as rui anyway.

dlo/gabe/rui/reddish for collins/sexton clears 2 roster spots and a few million to help with the second apron issues. utah doesn't lose anyone they really want to keep. maybe a protected swap gets it done? if they add kessler for hayes, maybe just a top-8 protected 1st?

that trade is now big enough to be impacted by the markkanen stuff, though.

I don’t even know who Kessler is! I guess I’m out of touch.

The two trades I’m still interested in are for Lopez and Grant. DDR for MLE only.

Did you watch any of team USA FIBA games? He was the 7’ white center.

I have a feeling any trade with Utah is going to revolve around unprotecting our pick for them and adding 1-2 more... Especially given we are trying to dump them our trash and save money.

I guess if we had to give them another pick, a protected one doesn't sound like the end of the world.

If Utah wants 2 picks for Kessler, I wonder if 1 new pick and removing the protections on 2027 will meet their price?

Getting so desperate for a big, with so little options, I might consider that even if it is an overpay.

mavs have been to the WCF twice in the last 3 seasons and the finals last season. the lakers have one WCF appearance where they got swept, two first round losses, and missed the playoffs in 2022 since winning it all

so tell me exactly how the team that just got swept in round 1 is in a better position than the team that just made it to the finals? if "it's the NBA and s*** changes every season," then i suppose a team like the pistons has just as much chance at a finals run than the defending champion C Bags?

Good to see they got Pelinka out of bed to get the Bronny deal done at least.
