I’m still taking Klay for the MLE.

Now go flip Rui, TB and the draft picks, for Mitchell or Markennen. Aim high

I guess either could be dealt, with a minor asset, for another big, on an expiring 20M or so contract.

We learned nothing from the Westbrook fiasco, it appears.

    Hard pass on Klay.

Why wouldn’t you S&T for Klay then have LBJ take his pay cut and use the NTPmle to improve this team more?

Im intrigued by Klay because I don't think he is done at all. I think all the drama on that team effected his play more than anything. For the right price I don't see how we pass up on a championship level sniper who can take over games.

Klay would be what, the 4th option on a team with LeBron, AD, and AR? For the MLE? On a team that has a 2 year window? Yeah, I think it's worth it. He's still a 40% shooter on nine 3's a game.

Again,i just don't know how much better we can realistically do. Maybe there's something else out there but if this is a real possibility, I think you have to pounce.

Maybe the world is changing, but I don't think the Lakers would do this to Klay. I don't really know what kind of employee he was, so perhaps they have a reason. After Kobe's injury, he was not the same but the team stuck beside him and gave him his due. Let him play out his career with dignity.

On to the next position to look at for Free Agency. Not in terms of importance, this is actually the least important but in terms of positional order...

    Power Forwards

If you want to follow along at home:
    https://www.spotrac.com/nba/free-agents/_/year/2024/position/pf/sort/contract_value

Bron, AD, Rui, Vando and Wood cover the spot. At least three of those players are returning. Depending on how trades go this week, maybe there's a minimum guy we look at. If we invest in the position, I don't expect it to be much.

Left off due to cost, RFA status or lack of available role: Slo Mo Anderson, Patterson, Toppin, Jalen Smith, Achiuwa (like him a lot... good rebounder), Saric. If we clear minutes, I'd look at one of those guys.

But since we haven't and might not...

    1) Covington: he's about done but can play 2-3 different spots and has played with JJ. If we clear several roster spots, I'm OK with him as a 14th man.

The they get DNP's but won't allow teams to get physical with us group:
    2) Markieff Morris: reunion tour?
    3) James Johnson: just slap the life out of 3 people: Bev, Brooks, and Book

    Locker Room Vet
    4) Thaddeus Young

There's a very good chance we do nothing at the position.

If we are talking trading DLo and whatever else plus picks for a better 2 way player, ok maybe Klay makes sense at the MLE if LeBron takes less to make that happen. But it then can’t be a 2, it will have to be a legit 3 & D wing, and in that case I guess we are starting Reaves at PG? Because you aren’t bringing Klay off the bench. So it’s Reaves, Klay, trade target, LeBron, AD? Really depends who we could get in that open spot, because that is a baaaas defensive lineup and doesn’t move the needle much for me. Who do we get for a big after that then, yet another minimum guy? I dunno I’m just not feeling it, we need to address what hurt us last year and that was defense at key positions and having no legit center on the team, Klay doesn’t help any of that, he’s just a known name is all. We really shouldn’t be adding dudes who LeBron wants that are past their prime, that hasn’t gone well for us historically.

I get the feeling it would be Klay and a second deal of some sort.

What was the point of signing Gabe Vincent to a 3 year deal? He is a PG. Reaves can come off the bench, that's not the craziest idea at all.

He was bad last year and unplayable for long stretches in the playoffs. Kind of crazy IMO people just assuming that on a lower salary he would be a good pickup.

When a guy with his history is not getting any good offers this is end stage Melo stuff folks.

On top of that he doesn't help fix the Lakers needs. Hard pass on Klay

My (pipe) dream scenario is DLo S&T for Klay, Valanciunas for NTPMLE, and Rui/Gabe/JHS/picks for Jerami Grant. Dinwiddie for the minimum (or split some of the NTPMLE with Jonas)

    Reaves / Dinwiddie
    Klay / Christie / Bronny
    Grant / Knecht / Reddish / Lewis
    Lebron / Vanderbilt / Wood
    AD / Valanciunas / Hayes

I know Portland never trades with us and we still have some defensive holes and PG depth issues, but if somehow we could pull that off I’d be pretty ecstatic

No. I'm not giving up 3 PG, and then rely on Austin Reaves as the starting PG. Nope.

Spencer is more washed, than some folks are claiming, that Thompson is.

Klay had 2 major injuries in a row that you’re never the same after, and he’s 34, not like his defense just fell off, there are clear reasons. I just don’t want that guy, I’m not even sure I want him for DLo straight up because at least DLo is still good enough to get us wins across the season. I dunno, this all seems very much up in the air, but Rob has his work cut out for him, we need a trade to clear salary and roster spots if nothing else.

want to qualify earlier comments: if, as hj indicates, lebron plans on taking a 40% pay cut to bring in klay, by all means bring him in. we can trade around that (though we'll be hampered by the first apron hard cap).

i'm just extremely dubious that lebron's taking that much of a cut. if he doesn't, klay makes zero sense to me due to what else would have to happen.

nope. opportunity cost in both cases. instead of improving in other areas we bring in a redundant piece because of the name.
