Again, we aren’t getting a very good two way player for the MLE. Maybe if Bron and AD were four years younger and we just came off a Chip run…
I would prefer big Val, but I’m sure he’s going to get paid much more.

While I agree with you for the most part IMO his son in the league has had an impact on his usual motivations

And, who’s to say that he can’t have a bounce back year?
    It happens every single season.

I guess impact player would have to be defined. IMO not many floating around out there. We need a trade to open roster spots, how about Trae in a trade...lol. I have no idea what that would look like or if even possible. No AR or Knecht involved.

I feel you man but I think Klay is washed and not worth it at this point. I hope I’m wrong (if we sign him).

Klay for 12M is a bargain, that's Gabe Vincent, Jarred Vanderbilt money.

He's washed as a 40mil a year player. Not for the MLE. Not saying he's exactly what we need, but considering Richard Holmes just got 2yrs/25mil, Klay is worth it.

Can’t Lebron just sign a contract that is backloaded? He gets all his money and gives us cap flexibility in the short term and worry about the long term tax apron implications later.

Kind of how I assume it would be structured. But even back loading has a max year difference per year in the split, so I’m guessing LeBron wants the other deals in place so he can still get as much as possible.

there's a limit on the amount a contract can raise per year.

but it doesn't matter. lebron can sign a 1+1 at 2/70 million, opt out, and we can use his full bird rights next year and sign him at the max, regardless of lux tax, apron, etc.

silver might be annoyed by it, but there's precedent for such things, and nobody's been punished for it.

so yeah, IF lebron is willing to take 35 instead of 50 next year, he can make 50 the following year, and the year after. hell, if he trusts us, we could even extend beyond that to where he actually loses nothing in the deal.

We took his son in the draft - does one hand wash another? No clue, but it would be nice.

And they drafted him knowing they were going to be criticized by media & fans (lakers and otherwise).

Take that pay cut for us, LBJ!!!

Yeah, Klay so “washed” that the team that just represented the West in the Finals wants him, and LeBron, to the astonishment of many, is willing to take a
$16 million pay cut to add him.

Klay is not toast as a movement shooter, or even as a scorer necessarily. He's toast as a PoA defender. He used to be elite, but can't do it anymore. He's also prone to horrible games from time to time, which he offsets with some all-star ones. Basically, he's inconsistent at this point in his career. Realistically, he could still contribute if you tell him you don't need him to score 18 anymore. 12 is enough, but you want his efficiency to be better. He could easily give you 12-14 on 40% for 3. But with Klay, you really need to know what you're getting and compensate for it in other ways.

For us... if we're talking MLE and keeping in mind his connection to the Lakers... it's a no brainer.

At his current salary, yeah, he's toast. It's all relative.

A guy who shoots 40% from three on over 9 attempts per holds real value at the MLE.
You can believe that’s a guy who’s “toast,” but that’s just not the truth. Contrary to the insanity of our current culture, truth can be defined, by facts that are real, that can be tested, and aren’t malleable.

You can add more words to that, but for 24M+ per year, or even for MLE, he's toast. I am pretty sure that, given minutes, both AR and DLO will outperform him. And Knecht will come quite close.

So... it's incredibly dumb to waste our only cap space on a redundant, 34 years old, coming of 2 major injuries SG/SF combo, which we have like 5 of.
