And if we had Jerami Grant on that team, instead of Rui and Tinkerbell, we'd have another chip, A Grant and whoever came with him trade, for Westbrook's 47M expiring would have been a better move than trading for Russell, Vanderbilt and Beasley. I love me some H-Town hustle tho, maybe we could have picked him off in a separate deal. I'm intrigued with the idea of Grant and Vanderbilt on the wings with AD too. It's more than one way to skin a cat, we worked with what we had, it's not some commandment, that it is the only way to get it done.

Lebron and AD are truly unique and special talents, somehow this seems to get a bit overlooked, when talking about the role players. They have the ability to elevate the other guys around them. That's what superstars do.

I’m hoping the “development” of Rui by this new coaching staff will turn him into a better rebounder and defender. It’s not like he’s slow afoot. I like him a lot, but if he doesn’t significantly improve in these important categories by the trade deadline, he should be moved.

Is this a hypothetical Grant? Because he definitely didn't play like a star last year and I actually watched Portland games because I've been lining for him on the Lakers for years. Nor was as good as AR when he was Denver in a supporting role.

AR is better player regardless of contract then Grant. Grants shot is just too inconsistent and he has no playmaking skills to speak of. Doesn't mean I don't want him on the Lakers and I think he would be really good in the Rui role in my opinion as he is significantly better defender and is just not as stiff overall as Rui.

I would counter that he was probably gassed from trying bang with joker. That’s a lot physically for him

That's some nonsense man. Contract aside, Reaves wouldn't be a 1st option in Portland, in place of Grant. That’s not who he is. You are trying to extrapolate a two guard, in a complimentary role, into being a better player, than a legit two way guy playing as the main cog? That's not even being realistic.

Hypotheticals don’t matter only what was and what was is him being put in a bad situation.Rui out rebounded Grant per 36 by 2 .Let that sink in as to how bad a rebounder he is.His Defense has really fallen off lately and he’s injury prone having played 60 games once in last 4 years

Grant is a reliable scorer though, Rui is not.

And what was, is again the question. You knew what we had available, how exactly would you have played Rui differently? It's one thing to say he wasn't used properly, ok well, what does being used properly actually look like to you?

If you think Rui’s offense might have fallen off, because he guarded Jokic occasionally, how about being the man guy, carrying the load on your team?

It's the same thing Pioneer is doing, you are trying to compare apples to oranges here.

Put Grant out there with AD and Lebron and we would simply be a much better team. 2 years ago and today. That's my take.

And Grant can guard 2-4, and Rui can not.

yeah, i think both teams got what they wanted. the offcourt issues and the playoff flop against dallas have tainted the general thinking on giddey. i haven't been as high as others on him in the past, but if this trade were announced a year ago, people would have said okc lost, right? they'd be asking what they were thinking giving up one of their core young players for a veteran role player.

anyway, to me okc knew that wallace was going to be a better fit with SGA long-term, and that giddey was going to be up for a contract soon. the bulls aren't bothered by that, as they don't really have choices to make about salaries going forward because most of their players aren't good or are old and will be gone.

re: turning down 2 1sts at the deadline for caruso--what kind of 1sts were we talking here? if sac thought they could get him for just the #13 in this year's draft, then how do we know the two picks weren't likely to be in the 20s? it's hard to give away 2 1sts in the 20s, as ainge has learned and presti will soon re-learn.

    Huge trade by NY.
They can have Brunson, Donte, Hart, OG, Mikal, Randle, Mitch and Hartenstein in their 8 man rotation. They can and should trade Randle and maybe get a backup PG.

I like it, they overpaid but they haven't been as close to the Finals as now for decades. Their core is young too, so this was the time. Mikal fits better than Don with Brunson.

On Randle coming here, really hope not. NY got better when he got injured. Addition by subtraction. He's the type of player that doesn't play winning basketball. He can fit in some up and coming teams, but it would be idiotic to pair him with LeBron/AD in their last window

grant's basically been a minus defender for years now. i don't know why. maybe it's because he's been a leading offensive option on really bad teams, but it was true in denver, too. another question about him is whether he's willing to take a back seat again on offense. he wasn't willing to do it before, and that's how he ended up in detroit and portland. and i haven't heard him say he wants it another way.

btw, simons was probably portland's #1 offensive option, and reaves would be on equal footing with grant offense, there or here.

i'm all for getting grant if possible, though.

idiotic? if he could be had cheap (e.g., gabe/rui), i think seeing if he could play next to our stars would be interesting. he's basically a better rui, imo. don't think it's happening, anyway.

i was thinking the same thing when i was listing other young centers (sharpe, bitazde). wiseman is definitely the kind of vet min reclamation project we've been taking on lately.
