Can you trade for a fired coach? Hey Detroit give up the 5th pick and the Lakers will take that Monty contract off your hands LOL

    Translated for JJ

Looks like it really is back to the drawing board. We're out of time and options are scarce.

Folks might have misinterpreted that Rich Paul statement. He is AD's agent too.

It seems like Hurley, came out a left field shortly afterwards.

    Excellent strategic preparations and foresight.

Can this team do anything proper? I mean, really, can they?

Fugly statues with typos, dumb personnel decisions, nepotism and friends at the helm...

I believe Dr. Buss wanted a twin tower set after Houston upset the Lakers…West was a firm believer in speed and Riley went with Green and they went back to back

Rob isn’t worried right now, the way it’s stated by at least Irwin, he’s untouchable, “he basically writes his own year end review and Jeanie just signs it”, he has no accountability. I know there’s an agenda from every side whenever info comes out, but Rob clearly has people in the org that don’t like him, don’t feel his lack of accountability is fair, don’t like how he goes around blaming the Russ trade on LeBron to anyone who will listen, he comes off very snake-like, more than mamba mentality. Again, yes, agendas, but it’s not good to me that the FO isn’t on the same page to the degree that the agendas leak/get put out publicly.

Where we go from here I don’t know, hopefully if we hire JJ it’s for much less money than this (although how does he not look insulted now with this out there), and the rest of this money goes to hiring highly paid and qualified assistants. If it’s not JJ I don’t know who it is, everyone else feels incredibly underwhelming because of this. This is a good point IMO,

    and some good listens

not that he's an inspiring choice or anything, but i'd much rather they hire borrego than redick if its really between those two. still think it'll end up being someone we haven't heard about

I’d rather it be Adelman than Borrego, yeah it’s another rookie coach, and that has worked out for us just as poorly if not moreso than retreads, but I just don’t like riding the coaching carousel. We’re the Lakers, we should be able to do better than Borrego. At least to me with Adelman or JJ there’s the unknown there, they COULD potentially turn out to be great, Borrego already was a head coach and he was fine, nothing extraordinary. If that’s what we want we should have just kept Vogel, rode it out like the Clippers have done with Lue, rather than wasting money on a new guy every 2 years. 2 years from now we’ll go after Monty, 2 years from that we’ll go after Budz when he’s fired in 4 years. It’s boring, that’s what made Hurley so intriguing, it sounded like we were finally going to get some stability, but I guess this job is not that appealing from the outside after all if you lose out to UConn.

that's assuming hurley actually considered the lakers job and wasn't just using them for leverage. guess we'll never know. not like its the first time they were rejected by a high profile college coach

i get what you're saying with regards to borrego, but the reality is that there really aren't many "great" coaches in the league to begin with. if they want an established name, its really between borrego, stotts, and atkinson, none of which are inspiring whatsoever. a rookie coach comes with the excitement that they've maybe found the next great HC, but it can also be a brutal experience as we saw with ham. i really don't think the lakers job (at the moment) is an appealing one at all. this isn't a championship contending team as constructed and if recent trends hold, you'll be fired if you don't win a title within two seasons. not to mention all the extra pressure from the media/fans compared to other teams. i don't blame any coach for not wanting this job

That’s fair, and true about there not being many great coaches. That’s why I’d take a shot with an Adelman or Nori or even JJ, because at least you MIGHT get someone great if you stick with them, hell Malone has been coaching Denver like 8 or 9 years, they didn’t become contenders until the last few. I guess I prefer the long shot or even the disaster to mediocrity. At least with the disaster you get a high draft pick, mediocrity gets you nowhere. I just hate retreads, I hate riding the coach carousel, it’s so boring. The Lakers should be anything but boring, we have to get more creative.
