Name 10 coaches better and more qualified than those 2. (I don't like Bud either but we are talking market value, not personal preference)

6/90 put him in the same range of only 3 coaches in the league: Spo, Pop and Kerr.
Am I really the only one who see that's crazy? That's an insane overpay. Dan NEVER coached in the league. No rookie coach has ever been offered even half of that. That's just crazy.
Honestly, take a step back and think about this straight. We are saying to pay him the same as those 3 multi-year champions. Dan can never be in that range without proving himself

Yeah. I mean, I go back to Lue for a few reasons and not just to dump on the front office or that I think he’s the best coach in the league.

As always, I’m no insider but my understanding is that Lue’s ask
    A) was not unreasonable in length or cost and
    B) we were aware of what he wanted and at least initially made it seem like we were okay with it. The combo of those is what upset him when we kept trying to get him to come for less and broke the whole thing down.

Regardless, we just should know better at this point particularly given all the narratives around the organization

Right. We should’ve interviewed everyone before declaring someone the favorite. Same with JJ

see, i don't think we ever declared jj the favorite. people did that; we didn't. we declared hurley the favorite by making an offer.

you're livin' in the past, maaannn...

seriously, though, monty williams--fresh off his second firing and ringless, signed for 13 per.

bud's on his second firing as well, but at least he has a ring.

    the rates are going up.

let's see who we hire and how much he (or she--i'm still holding out hope) is paid.

my guess is we're paying near this rate for whoever it is. whether it's a guy who's never succeeded in any way (borrego, redick, adelman, nori, etc.) or a guy who's succeeded and failed (like a stotts).

it's hard to know the facts about that one, but i think both sides thought the other should be more impressed with them, and i side with the lakers over lue, there. vogel was willing to accept our terms and had as good a track record (better, imo) as lue. and vogel's got a ring and lue doesn't. had lue taken our job, it's probably reversed, but that's not necessarily a lue endorsement as much as a demonstration that we were right to value them similarly.

but again, IF lue was really our top choice then (i believe it, just not by much) AND we were still going after him as recently as two weeks ago...we needed to learn from that experience in a way i'm not seeing yet.

And honestly that’s my whole hang up about these coaching searches - if this is your guy then go get him. If you’re waffling on the price tag, keep the process going and interview the next guy.

I agree with this. I’m not that torn up about it. Sure I wanted Hurley but if doesn’t want us, I don’t want him. I also don’t think the offer was some kind of insult. Who knows what the incentive part of it was but Hurley as a total unknown NBA coach would be making the 6th most money even without any incentive (if that part is true)

I also don’t think we have to back up the Brinks truck for JJ. If I’m JJ, I understand a 2 time championship college coach should make more money than a guy who coached his son as his only coaching experience. Hell that’s even lower than the G league.

Lue already had a ring. You know... the only coach, to come back down 3-1 to win a Finals series? SMH.. You seem to have a weird obsession, with knocking Lue for some reason. A ring winning player, with the Lakers too.

Pretty sure it was a son but either way it’s like coaching little league.
