More like 6 years for $70 mill allegedly. That's a good paycheck but not the crazy payday that was talked about. Back to the drawing board regardless.

The 8-year 100-million dollar offer would have been an offer Hurley couldn't refuse. Lakers messed up on this one.

Yeah I have to think that would have been the proverbial “Godfather” deal.

I don't think he was even negotiating. He wanted to stay and that's what he did.

The last Woj tweet on this says he is still negotiating with UConn. This was almost certainly posturing with the help of Woj. I'm skeptical the Lakers were the ones describing their offer as "massive." Woj was the first to use that exact word and for clear reason. I think Lakers called, made a substantial (but not massive) offer, and Hurley used Woj to drive up his price at Uconn, where he wanted to be all along.

i don't think the lakers would allow their brand to get damaged like this to do a solid for hurley.

this is a bad look for us in several ways.

i was prepared for him to maybe turn down a huge offer because he loves his job and his family loves it there or whatever, but not for us not to even make a huge offer. so it's a double whammy (national embarrassment and uncovering poor strategy). this is not to mention the damage it does to whomever ends up being the incoming coach.

i mean, only a handful of NBA coaches are being paid over 12 mil a year

the lakers are cheap, but even with what they supposedly offered, hurley would've been one of the league's highest paid coachrs. don't think they were being cheap in this instance. i don't think hurley was ever serious about leaving uconn

isn't this whole thing dumber if what you're saying is true? that we made a slightly above current market rate to a guy who didn't really want the job anyway?

    how is this good?

that and the salaries are inflating pretty wildly right now.

anyway, a 20-25% increase on what uconn is going to pay him was never going to do it, imo.

Worried the FO pivots back to feeling they need to make a splashy “third star” roster move to make up for the embarrassment of this coaching hire

Wonder who Deep Throat will ultimately be on this 100M >>> down to 70M reporting?? IF it was WOJ with an agenda .... eff that guy forever! If def did not come from Lakers the organization has to be furious about now. By the same token if 70M true all along it needed to at least split North of the difference with CA income tax so much higher than CT. Hate all the hating and mocking about to descend upon us again, and this really takes the lustre off whoever we choose plus will cost us more for their trouble.

With a shallow pool, like the coaching one, they'll once again have to look outside the NBA.

With his high profile relationship, Lakers see him as a Rodman type who famously dated Madonna.
