I’m being patient and waiting for Woj. While some of these journalists are solid, it’s clear none of them had any idea this was even a possibility. It’s a fluid situation and I don’t think them or their sources really know what’s happening. We will know soon enough. Hard to believe they blow things up like this without it being a lock but who knows. I wouldn’t be shocked if he stayed either.
i would be more surprised if he took the job. with a 3peat looming, hurley might be a guy who favors legacy over $$$
I am confused . He was yesterday at NYC ,but he already met with Jeanie and Pelinka Was it today ? https://x.com/esidery/status/1799859190661624146
Pretty sure he met with them in LA on Friday, maybe early Saturday as well, before flying to New York for the concert
legacy could also be leaving while you're on top and then winning in the nba, right? uconn lost 4 starters going into next year, too. there's a reason the last threepeat was like 50 years ago.
Saw Laker fans freaking out on Twitter because there was some buzz that Jay Wright is now a candidate, making them think Hurley said no. Just clearing it up in case anyone saw similar, Marc Stein already cleared up that this “report” aggregated his info completely incorrectly. He was saying he had heard Wright’s name early in the process as a potential candidate, not someone they’re currently looking into.
Yeah. While it was funny for us I can’t imagine the league liked us completely overshadowing the Finals like that. I expect the Woj bomb to drop tomorrow.
wright isn't leaving his TV gig at his age to take a NBA job it'll be hurley, redick, or someone we haven't even speculated about at all
Tomorrow. Honestly I expect him to stay at UConn if I had to guess, much less pressure there than here, and our future post-LeBron is not clear, don’t know if he wants to be part of a rebuild when all we hear about him is he wants to win a title in the NBA.
if he turns it down, i think both parties regret the dalliance. i think it was lowe who said when he went to the meeting, he sort of made the decision. better to do it now than later, imo. also, i think there's a lot of talk about the guy liking/wanting a challenge. well, this is it. biggest stage, brightest lights. if he's wired like everyone says, i don't see another path. now, it's possible he's not wired like that, and that's ok. hell, it's probably smarter/healthier. but the real maniac doesn't get comfy with his fiefdom. he tries to flex at the highest level against even larger odds. edit: it's funny--in my personal life recently, a friend decided to apply for a job in an ideal location (for them) but that was a step down from their current job. i knew when they applied that even if they didn't get this one, they were gone. the decision was made when they applied. this is what i think about hurley. if it's not for us, it's someone else (knicks?) in the near future.
I want us to get it done, but this entire process I’ve felt he was way more likely to return to UConn and that latest article just reenforced that to me. I also might be just being negative so.
Not mentioned in the headline of Woj’s latest tweet: Interesting that this suggests Hurley himself may directly be Woj’s source Not quite sure how to take this info, honestly feels like he needs more time to decide (or wants to wait until Monday to announce his decision) so this is Woj just spinning tires since he had previously suggested this could be wrapped up by the end of the weekend Still feels 50/50 to me
I don’t always mean what I say, I have a system, can’t be disappointed if you were never appointed in the first place
I don’t know. While I wouldn’t be shocked if he stayed this whole thing felt like he was pretty much out of there to me. If it was just about getting more money he could’ve easily accomplished that when the Kentucky job became available. He wouldn’t be the first to decide the lights here were too bright for him but this whole thing is weird to me if he just ends up going back. Especially since he is the one leaking a lot of the info to Woj. so yeah. I’m with Vegas. I lean toward thinking he’s coming absent some last minute extreme change of heart.
Never heard of this Fanta guy before this week but if he’s truly connected (for what it’s worth, he was also at the same Billy Joel concert as Hurley last night) this reads to me as if Hurley wants to announce his decision to leave to his players first. I don’t see why he’d feel an obligation to wait until practice to announce to his players that he’s staying. If everything is about to continue on a business as usual basis, feel it would make more sense to just announce to the media that he’s staying as soon as he decided so his players could have more peace of mind through the weekend. Like if my company announced on a Thursday they were considering layoffs, I would much prefer an email on Saturday announcing they’ve decided to NOT do layoffs rather than a vague meeting invite for Monday morning
That’s my thought as well. Feels like he wants the time to break the news to everyone there before it hits the news cycle. We will see soon enough but I lean toward him taking our offer.
