If they're meeting tomorrow it's to: A) tell them he's leaving for LA B) shake them down for more money, using us as leverage Guess we'll know one way or another pretty soon. Can't wait for this decision, either way, to overshadow yet another C Bags NBA Finals game.
His buyout is only 1.8M, if he left for the pros. It's 7.5M to move to another college job. Going from 33M to a reputed 100M guaranteed, man..I doubt the money, would be his main reason, for staying at UConn.
It may be less, but it still clearly matters. Put a Popovic up against a Ham, and you are galaxies apart.
Popovic is senile, just saying. As for the HC, i don't really care who we get... i survived Ham, i'll survive anyone. Only coach that would make me happy and care about the hire is Spo.
still worried about this guy. who joins a forum to troll it about a potential coaching hire? someone check on this person. yeah, the pop/spo/pjax difference is real, but there's just so few of them. i do think that there are also a handful of bad coaches who actively harm your chances, and that ham might have been one of them. that we hired him is concerning in retrospect. he pushed so many wrong buttons in his short time here, it boggles the mind. and again, most of these were things everyone sitting at home saw at the time, not afterwards. so, while i might agree with lowe that coaching matters less in the nba, it does matter at the ends of the distribution. in most cases (~80%), the difference is negligible, hence the retread coaching carousel.
That offer has been in front of him for months. If he has interest in that one, he would've accepted it already. He's not taking that one, it would be for one that makes him paid more than Bill Self. Hence the leveraging us concerns. But yes, that wouldn't be the only reason. East coast fam, being the man there with all the power and control, 3-peat chase, etc. There's several, but if he's staying and for offered $12.5m a year from us, he's sliding that across the desk and telling them to close the gap between the offers.
immediately. feel like we'll know by tomorrow. i'm going to very interested to hear what our offer was in any case.
Such an alleged large offer …. does it now inflate what the next guy expects if Hurley declines …. above what might have been the case if this all hadn’t happened?
If say we come back to Redick or one of the other names linked to our search I wouldn’t expect it as they don’t have the resume with the experience and championships even if college nor the celebrity, but am guessing it bumps up a couple million or more per year their asking price and now the Lakers don’t want the optics of multiple candidates turning them down and having to “settle”. Ugggh! I hope Hurley takes it for all the many good reasons.
Well if it’s option B, we’d be overshadowing the C Bags Finals game for the wrong reasons… not a great look if the talk on the broadcast is about how we got spurned by Hurley despite offering him a massive deal, and now we’re pivoting back to JJ Redick while the C Bags go up 2-0 en route to taking back the record of most NBA championships Now Option A? Might bring me tears of joy if the broadcast is flooded with talk about how the Lakers landed Hurley, and the C Bags end up losing to make it a competitive series
There's always drama when Lakers are involved. A simple coach hire turns into a tv series with a suspense.
