New thread for an upcoming new season.

Interesting time for the team. LeBron nearing the end, AD in his later prime, some 1st round picks and assets to play with, and a new coach coming in.

If/when Mitchell and Murray dont work out the only other viable option I see would be Sexton. He’s 96 on the top 100 and his coach has nothing but good things to say about him

Despite the animosity toward us, I think Allen can be had from Cleveland just a question of what they would want.

I'd like to see us targeting some big guys and I'd probably start my phone calls there.

Guys, we’re going to win the whole thing for sure now! According to Pincus, Chris Paul is a real possibility to come to the Lakers!

Can you feel the excitement? Kobe, Dwight, and Paul finally together after all the dust settled.

i've always felt like when paul finally gets bought out, he's playing here with lebron. but teams keep picking up his salary to use as trade ballast!

i hope that's how we go.

    right now we have:

    AD
    lebron

    reaves

    dlo
    vando
    rui
    gabe

we need to turn some of the bottom 4 into guys on reaves's tier, imo. dlo/rui for a jerami grant type, then hit a home run with whichever exception is available to us?

If it’s guys who “Star in their roles “ then Drummond has to be talked about.Who stars at rebounding more than him.Something this team needs

i think if we offered drummond something over the minimum and promised a shot at starting next to AD, he'd take it.

    oh, and other roster considerations:

we do have some non-bird rights to prince, and it wasn't his fault ham misused him. we can afford to pay him more than the tpmle or bae using our raise option, so we may be able to retain him.

we can also retain max pretty easily.

let's assume the worst: dlo walks for nothing and lebron signs for the max.

    lebron 51
    AD 43
    reaves 13
    rui 17
    vando 11
    gabe 11

    prince 6?
    max 6?

    jhs 4
    wood 3
    lewis 2

I'm assuming prince and max would both play for 6 per, but i could be wrong there. if so, wipe them off.

without them, we're at 155. with 4 vet min cap holds, that's 159.

tax is 165. first apron is 172.

using the mle caps you at the first apron.

could we get dinwiddie and drummond to split the mle and pay max and prince 6 each? i think that would put us right near the first apron.

obviously trades will impact this (i'm pretty sure we're not keeping our pick--it's going out with one or more of gabe/rui/vando on draft night), but i'm just trying to calibrate expectations...

So same roster but without DLo? Doesn't sound very good
Gabe is really hurting us. He really needs to ball out next year so he can be either an asset on court or at least a tradable one by the deadline. He's dead weight right now in a team already thin in cap maneuver

I've listened to Buha/Pincus convo and it doesn't look good.
DLo might re-sign though, no team will pay as much as us. He may go to another team in a longer contract for the MLE but it's hard to see many suitors for that. This is good for us. If he goes away, we do get the MLE so it's not as catastrophic as I thought initially.

Another interesting one is that DLo might only decide after the draft, meaning we can't trade the pick AND him in draft day. Which puts us in a tough position where we will need to pick and then trade that guy with the other 2 picks which isn't ideal.

All in all, I'm not very confident in this offseason. We don't have much flexibility and will likely rely on Max becoming a bonafide core rotation player and won't be able to improve much the roster all-around.

dlo for drummond, basically, banking on internal growth from rui/max/gabe (being not dead)/vando (being also not dead)

fact. i do think he's a plus player when healthy, though.

this is what i was outlining. i'm sure rob has gamed it out, too. the mle market will have one to two players near the dlo level, imo.

yeah, it's pretty bleak. let's just not westbrook ourselves here.

tatum over edwards for first team is a bit silly.

not sure i like leonard as 2nd team, either.

mitchell's got some beef with booker, haliburton, and curry getting in over him, imo.

flipping Derozan/Caruso for salary filler (dlo signed, rui, gabe?) and some valuable firsts is a trade that actually makes sense for both LA and Chicago. With Lebron shooting better he can switch to more of a Draymond Green role with Derozan and the Reaves/Caruso synergy remains almost too good to be true. From the Chicago side those firsts could bring you some real talent (i.e. it's an overpay by LA for a risky trade mostly due to the ages of Lebron and Derozan).

Chicago seems perfectly happy to be a play in team though and their frankly bizarre approach to team building basically negates what would be very shrewd move by them to get them a chance to reach contender status again.
