Keep playing that great defense! What a great moment tonight for a dude that’s been struggling offensively!
Throughout his entire career I thought Dinwiddie was an okay defender but one of those guys who can get hot and score 16 in a quarter, but he starts tonight with Lebron out, and all I've seen from him so far in the P&G is good defense. Which is all I ask. He'll hit some shots. I want defense, and man: Spencer has shown me he's a way better defender than I thought. The clean block on Dame to seal the win was an astonishingly well-played move on one of the all-time step-back dudes. So clean, too.
Yeah this is a nice turn of event .. Didn't know he was going to bring solid POA defense . His moments of the offense will come , he's not forcing it , it's all good to me.
Spence is exactly the guy we needed. Plays really good defense for us, has size, plays solid, smart basketball. Everyone seems to play better when he's on the court for whatever reason. No, he's not scoring well, but I'm not even sure we need it from him. If he could just up that 3pt%, he'd be perfect.
Such a huge play. I did not envision this role for him, I didn't think he had it in him. I knew he could play better D than he has been on the Nets, he showed he was better in Dallas but the buy in to not only sacrifice 75% of your offensive game but have defense be your strength when you're on the court. That's been shocking to me. Love that kind of whatever it takes buy in. Really hope he'll consider coming back for our TPMLE this summer, I know that's a haircut for him but we can make it to to him down the road.
Spencer's offense has gone south. 0 points in the win over MIN, but I don't care: his D has been GOLD. (Purple and Gold)
I need to see a little more on offense- not asking for much. He should be able to average 10ppg on this team.
Bizarro world. His defense has been great but offense bad Part of the issue is that they don't run any PnR for him. He's been used off ball which probably doesn't get him going. Dinwiddie seems the type who needs to put up a few shots to get into a rhythm
Honestly, I’m amazed at the few who can just come into the game and start draining shots a la Lou Will and Jordan Clarkson.
I would make an effort to get him going on offense he makes a lot of sense against Denver. He matches up with Murray physically and unlike Vando and Cam hes still a much bigger threat on offense even with his offense not being quite there yet. Allows you to keep Rui at SF side he also matches well with Denver size. Should allow AR to be on KCP
i feel like he's been great in his role, even if he can certainly do more. i'm actually a little concerned by his comments only because it reads a bit like he knows he's not going to be here in the future. wish we had him instead of gabe going forward.
Yeah he opens a lot of lineup flexibility as he credibly defends both pg's and wings (i did not predict this). Makes the 4th and 5th guy in closing lineups with AD/Lebron/AR much easier to create and tailor to specific opponents. Rui/Spencer for Denver (cam/vando)/Spencer for Phoenix Even 3 guard lineups vs GS
This move at the deadline ended up being BETTER than any other move that was on the table bcuz it would have sapped our depth once again. Dinwiddie man...he may not be scoring a lot (or at all), but boy oh boy his DEFENSE has been SUPERB. I did NOT think we were getting THIS when he signed with us. I was thinking bench scorer 12-15ppg with 3 rebounds and 4 assists...something like that. But what he's bringing is the VANDO-like stat line where you don't see much in the box score but watching the game, he allows for switchability and you can't cheat off of him like you do with Vando because he's capable of exploding offensively too. Seeing him guard guys like Dame, ANT, McDaniels, or even switching onto bigs at times...it's pretty wild man that he holds his own against guards and wings. I think Spencer is going to be HUGE for us down the stretch and in the playoffs...I do not wanna see Gabe Vincent return at all because he's just not anywhere near the level of Spencer Dinwiddie.
To be fair, Gabe was huge in the playoffs for the Heat last year. That being said, it’s going to take him at least a month to get into basketball shape again.
