Sure there is always caveats but the converse works too in this case. The good defenses protect the rim in general

In order to do that, we need to spread the floor and we cannot do that with Reddish playing over DLO.

indiana's pattern almost looks intentional: they limit threes AND allow a bunch in the paint. but washington and detroit just...are bad at both. minnesota is good at both protecting the rim and keeping three point attempts low.

maybe if they could recreate the top figure using open or wide open threes? that would be more compelling. we KNOW that rim attempts have a pretty high conversion rate league-wide, but as someone said above, not all three point attempts are created equal (as he suggests in the second tweet).

i guess what i'm saying is that i find it hard to believe that teams are trying to limit ALL three point attempts as a general strategy.

i do think the data suggest that keeping folks away from the basket is generally a good thing and should be priority 1.

Kings are one of the matchups where our lack of speed/athleticism is really glaring, especially in the backcourt.

this team isn't finishing any higher than 10th

just f***ing pathetic that a team with AD and lebron has been this mediocre for the last 3.5 years since the title

again, two of those years it was injuries that did it. this year...i don't know what to say. we've had some unfortunate injuries, but not enough to put us in 10th place. we shouldn't be in the play-in with our available talent, imo.

I do think that not having a consistent rotation of Vando, Rui, Reddish & Prince has been a major factor in our Season. Not having a legit Backup PG up until we got Dinwiddie didn't help either. But, yeah, I agree. We should not be in 10th place with the Seasons LeBron & AD are having.

Injuries to Vando and Gabe have hurt us, but that is still no excuse for this poor record and being in 10th. Hopefully we dig ourselves out of there in the remainder of the regular season but that chance is definitely dampened by this last loss against Sacto. Still have 18 games to turn it around though. 18 game win streak anyone?

injuries were definitely to blame in 2021. with a healthy AD i think they beat the suns and have a good chance of making it to the finals again

2022 was westbrick trade + terrible roster construction by pelinka bringing in a bunch of old, washed up 3 pt shooters who couldn't defend

2023 they got hot at the right time but denver was just better

not having vanderbilt has hurt, but there's no excuse for this year's team to be this mediocre with lebron and AD healthy all season. i won't even bother mentioning vincent because he played like s*** in the few games he actually played

AD and Bron are a huge part of the pb .. They aren't the players they used to be and can't bring the energy and effort every game in the regular season.

Fans get lost in their good numbers but these numbers are averages and sometimes lack context.

By instance Bron got 19 of his 31pts against the Kings in the 2nd half when the deficit was already 15 ( and the Kings always led at least by 12pts) .

This scenario happens on a regular basis with him.

If AD and Bron were that good , the Lakers would be 10 games above 0.50 despite their flaws .

Those are interesting points. I've thought about that, too.

    Nice post.

Are we ever going to enter a Wolves game and take Naz seriously from the jump? We cut off his water in the second half, but damn it! Every time he kills us. 21 in the first half. If we didn't let him take whatever 3 he wanted in the first half, this doesn't take until midway through the 4th to put away.

I just don't understand why our strategy is to leave three point shooters open. It drives me nuts.

    It's such a bad plan.

If we did either of those things: respect Naz or close out in the shooters then this isn't a game (those somewhat overlap because Naz did hit roughly 1/3 of their 3s)

There’s actually no point in even making the playoffs this year- they have zero chance against the Kings or Denver.

    Got burned by that today...again.

You can't run that defensive scheme against teams that actively spam 3's like the Kings. Should be aggressive with the close outs and force them into mid-range shots or funnel into AD.

Obviously can't win when LBJ/AD go like 13-35, but boy, we have basically 0 scoring off the bench.

its not a strategy to leave 3pt shooters open, the kings do a good job of drive n kick n of course Bron gives zero F's on defense n always stays in the paint (barnes was his man, 7/11 from 3s most of em wide open)....im not sure of that's on Ham or no one can tell his highness to actually guard his guy
