I don't want to take the job during a tough road trip. Can I wait until it's padded a bit with some lottery teams? How do you basically say that in an interview and not get escorted out by security.

I don’t understand how it can be “disrespect” when it’s based on factual evidence. There can be two sides to an argument without any disrespect.

it's a question of whether it's over the top. i totally get why people wouldn't want young, but sometimes it sounds like people think he's like russ and actively makes your team worse. that's not based in fact. at all. he's probably not worth the max, but he's been to three all star games and made one all nba team at age 25. he's served as a legit number one option on offense. i don't think anyone can argue atlanta has built a fantastic team around him, either.

anyway, i'd prefer to just keep dlo (and dinwiddie) at a reasonable price, but i can see why the lakers would be interested.

i can also see why the hawks might move young instead of murray.

I never have and never will compare Trae to Russ.
I just hate the three guard build.
If I had to succumb to it, it better be a player who plays both sides of the floor.
Also, you potentially remove yourself from the ability to add a player much better in the future like Luka or Tatum. To me, it’s not worth jeopardizing this possibility.
But, since Klutch is so entrenched in our FO, we probably will go after Trae.

he has a player option on his contract. What if he opts in? I suppose we view it as a trade chip or salary filler if needed? Not sold it would be the best move either way, but time will reveal all.

Trae needs to be surrounded by solid defense, but his ability on offense isn't in question.

If he opts in he can be traded, similar to Trez. It's a dicey thing man..if he got traded, that meant we failed. I don't want that, but if we do, and he was a big issue, than It's best to move on. TBH I'm as optimistic as ever about our chances except in regards to D'Angelo. I hope he proves me wrong though.

If he comes through like we hope he can, we talk him into declining the option and extending him. But for far less than Trae will command. I don't see the massive upgrade if DLo is in the right frame of mind. But can his "eff it" mentality stick around, or does he default to being more of a passive player. Trae is a gunner no matter what mood he wakes up in. DLO is a bit of a roll of the dice.

Right..I totally agree, the paradox with D'Angelo, is that the talent level isn't the question. That dude has skills, and he could play just about anywhere, and thrive IMO. I just don't know if he really wants it, or if winning a Championship, is as important to him. He doesn't talk about chasing chips, he talks about having fun, and being able to do his thing. Some will say, that he's still a bargain at his salary. That might be true, but we need more than that, in order to get this ring.

we need bitter, resentful, IDGAF DLO in order for him to be at his best. Does that happen if we give him a 4 year deal.

My gut says no. History also seems to reflect that.

It's pretty incredible how quickly the NBA changes. In the blink of an eye the Nets go from a roster of superstars to a monster joke of a franchise. Look what the Knicks have done in that time as well..

Yeah they have a rebuilding/ in limbo roster. Odd timing. Unless they weren't satisfied with his development of their younger guys or blame him for not being a witch doctor who can heal Simmons.

We'll take Bridges from them this summer if they want to tear it down. I'd much rather have him than the 3 stars we've been linked to.

their price for him is kind of ridiculous, iirc--and we can't afford it. not sure i want to, either, as i think he's miscast as a #1 or #2 option on offense, tbh. he's an excellent third guy, but i think you can find good third guys (like murray, for example) for less.

I think they have to come down. Most teams do based on deadline asks or players are going to sit and rot. Two firsts, a starter level player, + prospect seems fair to me.

I think he's a perfect plug and play on a contender. Like you said high end 3rd or lower end 2nd. I like him because his two way play, fits next to our current stars and will fit in next to whoever we bring in next. Just basing this off Team USA, but he seems pretty popular among his peers which helps. Not to mention Austin would be over the moon (especially if DLO stayed in this deal).

And I only do that if we get confirmation from Tatum, Luka and Ant's camp that they're not going anywhere anytime soon.

unfortunately, he's under contract for two more years. if it were one, i think the package you suggest might get it done.

that said, if he doesn't extend, we may be able to get enough space to sign him in FA that year, with reaves leading the recruitment efforts!
