i've looked into it a bit. it beats absolute b******* like PER. it tries to take contextual factors into account, but...that's just really hard to do. it's not that the people who make these aren't smart (except hollinger, he's honestly just not very sharp); it's that the things they're trying to model are very difficult to capture, and there's not enough data to do it even if you know your parameters (which i'm not sure we do).

there are some advanced stats i look at a lot (e.g., bpm, vorp, etc.), but they're there to augment my thoughts about what i see rather than fully replace them.

like, dinwiddie's not a good defender. the reason his role has been "wing stopper" is because you don't want to try putting him on the primary opposing ballhandler. the models don't really know this. they assume roles either make sense or are random, and neither is true. unless ham's your coach, i guess.

anyway, we definitely need the things dinwiddie can do. i think it means that we need to outscore people instead of defend, but when vando went down, i think that was inevitable. dinwiddie might win us a couple games all by himself, though, which is nice.

Great pickup without giving anything back ..

Should allow us to win more games by outscoring the opponent when we can't get stops

That rim pressure will be a helpful wrinkle when the offense goes stagnant.

He is still much more athletic than any of our other back-court players.

That was a good pickup. Rob is actually pretty damn good, at snagging talent on the cheap IMO.

Also in Dinwiddie's contract is a $1 bonus if he wins the championship with the Lakers.

    Go Spencer Go !!!
I am sure that a lot of Lakers fans will add their own money to your bonus

really eager to see how he works out here.

yeah, it may be possible to move gabe into cap space for a couple seconds and use whatever exception we can get to for dinwiddie.

this is assuming it goes well, of course.

Finally get someone to fill the gaping hole that losing DS caused.
Not only do you get a secondary ballhandler which was huge: I mean Mays looked really good because the hole was so big. But you also get that change of pace rim runner that DS was really good as well.

Wish he was as good of a POA as defense but on the plus side he's bigger: going to be useful against the jumbo teams like Denver and Clips
