he bet on himself and that he would have a bigger role here despite Dallas being able to pay him 3x more. also playing for your boyhood team is a big pull for a lot of people. really hope his stint is a success.
i thought we were the logical choice over dallas, as he's more likely to get minutes here. in dallas, exum has been really good for them, and it would be hard to sit josh green or exum for dinwiddie. they also have thj and jaden hardy as bench scoring guards. with gabe out, we had nada. great insurance for dlo disappearing in the playoffs, too, as dinwiddie is a lot of things but scared of the playoffs isn't one of them.
Dinwiddie is a definite ball stopper and more of an iso scorer but I like that he bring something different then Dlo and REaves. He's more of a threat to drive and drunk off of isos so not only do you fix the huge hole of the backup PG spot, he's gives you what Dennis brought last year which was a change of pace/different style to make it harder for defenses to adjust. I think this is a great pickup: fixes basically all the offensive issues Lakers have (lack of backup PG, forcing Reaves into a PG role, lack of rim attacker outside of Lebron). His weaknesses aren't that big of a deal as Lakers have two excellent offensive guards next to him. Defense is still an issue: really need Cam and Vando back to shore up that POA defense and this team is going to be very good. (as long as Ham gets out of his own way and plays lineups that makes sense. No f***ing 3 guard lineups dude)
D isn’t his calling card. But he’s an athlete, and I agree about calling him a gamer. He doesn’t shrink. And he can put pressure on defenses.
He isn’t a perfect player, but this is the buyout market, you rarely see players of this talent level as a buyout pickup, usually it’s guys who USED to be good but are on the tail end, like Lowry for example. This is a huge pickup in that regard, we didn’t have to give up any assets in a trade and we just essentially replaced Gabe, hell it’s even DLo insurance if he gets hurt at some point because Spencer is a capable starter if needed. Not the best defender, no, not the best shooter, but he can do those things enough, and he can make plays and get to the rim. It’s a big get, it lets Reaves be more of a SG again, it lets LeBron have to handle the ball and make plays that little bit less. I don’t know how far we go this year, just making the playoff seems like the goal at the moment, but this has to help, it’s a talented player added while losing nothing.
DAMN!! Thank you ..... straight from the Man himself. I don't follow other teams or players and honestly already know he's a really good get from reading here. But that's exciting to hear.
@Weezy LEBRON evaluates a player’s contributions using the box score (weighted using boxPIPM’s weightings stabilized using Offensive Archetypes) and advanced on/off calculations (using Luck-Adjusted RAPM methodology) for a holistic evaluation of player impact per 100 possessions on-court.
