Good addition. Fixes the backup PG issue and helps the offense significantly. Doesn't fix the POA defense so still need Cam and Vando back. Can he be in a finishing lineup against Denver with his defense?
This is much better than those trades that were going to make us worse. Rob takes the heat and delivers yet again. We are getting hot at the right time and IMO this is really going to help us.
Thanks for the heads up last night DLO. Best player on the buyout market by far. We needed another primary ball handler for the second unit. Austin just looks so much better as a secondary than primary, this keeps him in that role AND in lineups where there's only one ball handler, it keeps the ball moving. He can score, can shoot (less so this year) and for free... you can't beat that.
Maybe. But he’s more a facilitator and spark plug on O. Doesn’t really play much defense, but he’ll get steals.
This came out before the signing was announced Good job Rob and Buss bros for landing the plane. I was encouraged last night when I read his reps were there with him, that's a good sign you're there to look over some important paperwork that needs a signature. That wasn't the case with our weird courting of Collison or when Ky was sitting courtside.
I’m thrilled honestly. What I wanted most was a backup PG and Dinwiddie is a nice talent. I’ve always liked his game and that he is such a Kobe fan. Great job Rob. I also love that we got him over Dallas who could pay him three times as much as us.
getting him for free is unironically better than any of the realistic moves they could've made at the deadline
This also helps a lot managing Gabe. He's locked for 3 years so it's good we just cut the losses this year and let him heal well and make sure he's ready for the future. He may not even play this year and wouldn't hurt us. Also kudos for the quickness in signing Spencer. First buyout signing of the season. Really smooth
I've been thinking about this a lot. Austin's development over the last 12-18 months has been awesome to see and might be the single biggest factor in us treading water through the Russ fiasco. But we might've pushed him into the primary creator, 3rd-best player on a contending team role a bit too soon when he's still best as a super glue guy. When he can run P&R but also spot up, cut off-ball and put more energy into the defensive end. I agree that even if Austin is a better player than Dinwiddie, it might be wise to let Dinwiddie handle the ball more in those lineups and let Austin's all-around game shine through.
I am very happy about this. He is exactly what we needed and we did not trade anyone. Just need Cam back now and we’ll move up in standings relatively soon.
This is a fantastic get. Dinwiddie is such a gamer. I’ve wanted him on the Lakers for a long time. Let Gabe heal 100%. We have our backup PG for the season now. If we get Cam and Vando back and ramped up before the playoffs we have a chance to make some noise this year.
