I don’t think Pincus is talking about next year’s exceptions, I think he’s referring to how both the Mavericks and Lakers didn’t spend all of last year’s NTMLE.

So we can both currently offer Dinwiddie more than the minimum (which is pro-rated) compared to other teams. Apparently Dallas actually has about $5 million of their NTMLE left, we have about $1.5 million.

What I’m not clear about is what the difference in pay that Dinwiddie actually receives would be between us and Dallas. Something about there being different rules for a buyout vs. a waiver, where in one scenario some of the players new contract is just taken from the amount the original team owed. So that the player isn’t actually making that much additional net money from their new contract.

Also my bad abeer, just noticed the part where Pincus was actually talking about next year’s exceptions. I guess he’s suggesting that if either team is trying to sell Dinwiddie on a long term fit, they’d both only be able to use the TPMLE this upcoming summer?

But yeah… don’t like that lol. Dinwiddie for the rest of the year would be cool, but unless he really impresses I think there would be wiser uses of the TPMLE just based on the roster construction needs
