Well... I am disappointed. I don't know whose idea it was to commemorate him with the 81 walk-off, but it's wrong IMO. I personally, would have preferred a statue that shows the grind behind the scenes.... drenched in sweat. Challenging, I know... but the one we now have is a meh... at best.
81 point game walk off. Plus two others. 24 - likely on the table after beating Boston. and with Gigi. Love it all. Tears.
Not a fan of the statue. It's unimaginative and looks awkward even for what it's trying to do. When the curtain first came down I thought the pose looked more like Saturday Night Fever than the walk-off. I don't even like the base. It is what it is. Glad he got a statue, and I'll be paying my respects at his feet every time I go to a game. But I would have preferred a different design.
Well, at least this does solve something in my mind. Been wondering for months if it was gonna be a statue with Gigi, a No.8 statue or a No.24 statue. Guess we're getting them all. But man I've missed him a lot these last couple days. Not only we recently had the anniversary of his death, but very recently (Feb 6th) a former president here where I live (Chile) died in a helicopter accident, which obviously reminded me of Kobe. We were lucky to have him. Incredibly lucky.
I have no issues with the choice because it was, in my mind, the game that cemented him as The GOAT. I think the third one will be him on the scorer’s table after beating Boston. Having three is just awesome!
What an incredible and moving ceremony. I loved the stories and speeches. It got me all choked up. Miss you so much Kobe. I love the idea behind the three statues and can't wait to see them all soon. Mamba forever.
There's a TNT double header and he's working game 1 .... I guess? Yeah, you'd think he probably could have gotten that one off to be here?
