yeah, i'm not sure what the fuss about DFS has been about. if you can get him for nothing, sure, great. but giving up any rotation player makes it a wash almost immediately.

Difference is DFS is the defensive player Ham thinks Prince is.

Irwin mentioned Gabe + a pick was the rumor he heard yesterday that made the most sense.

yeah, to me that's not giving up much as gabe doesn't play and their contracts run the same length. with vando going down, we could actually use another wing, too.

that said, dfs hasn't looked very good since he left dallas. if he didn't have a rep from that time, his negative advanced numbers and contract length would have the nets paying 1st rounders to move him, not the other way around.

i actually think he and prince are very similar players, with prince being the better shooter and dfs being the better rebounder. neither is actually a good perimeter defender, tbh--at least not as much as their rep would have you believe. they're both good at guarding big forwards, which is a need, though.

Gabe going out for him? Eh..that's better than Rui, but unless LeBron has some concrete inside information, that CP3 will definitely get bought out soon, we will still be lacking at PG.

Gabe is more a theory than a player at this point. We're getting 6 assists from AD over the last 11 games. Maybe Lowry shakes loose onto the buyout market, seems to be the most likely name to head there so far. We can't go 0/3 on Heat guards... can we?

I don't think CP goes anywhere. He's the only structure to that thing when Steph sits.

I don't know man, Steph said that he was open to some changes being made, CP3 is sitting on a 43M expiring contract, that is a pretty valuable trading chip. Rumor has it, that the Warriors are interested in Caruso.

Lowry isn't bad as a buyout candidate tho.

I don't get it either. I think most in the media just automatically downgrade our guys.

cp's contract is 30 million, but yes, it has some value. and it would have to be included in any big deal, as i don't think anyone's touching wiggins right now.

guessing one of paul or lowry would come here if we moved gabe. that's guaranteed minutes on a high profile team with lebron, and possible playoff starts if dlo pulls a dlo.

lol, imagine if DFS played here and was posting a -2 bpm (!) and a 10 PER and had three years left on his deal at 14 per...

"The Lakers would like to upgrade from Finney-Smith, who has been disappointing since arriving as a primary piece in the Irving trade, but rival general managers say it will take eleven first rounders for them to consider moving their expiring contracts for him."

They've been tied to nearly 15-20 players. It's clear they're trying to do something but no clue as to what. Maybe because they look so awful out there, they don't even know what kind of move to make. I don't think any one trade fixes that team. Looks like they're shopping Wiggins the hardest (often rumored one-for-one trades). Kuminga has value but they don't want to move him.

Looking at the market, I'm not even sure what they could get for CP if they went that route, looking at salaries in his $30m range. DeRozan rental? But Bulls are now saying they're hoping to work out reupping him this summer. Collins swap in Utah. Does that even help GS? Washington's ask for Kuz has scared everyone away.

gs has their 26 and 28 pick to move. that plus cp can get kuz, i bet. picks could probably have some protection, too.

man, i wish our ownership group would pay a gajillion in luxury tax...

I don't understand why Basketball Reference lists CP3 contract at 43M.

Yes 30M is a different hit, I was thinking that they might be crazy enough, to dump Paul for Lavine, taking on that ugly contract, should net Caruso without any draft picks attached.

    https://www.basketball-reference.com/contracts/GSW.html

Agh..I was looking at Klay..damn..Klay for Lavine? Whew they have 70M plus in Thompson and Paul..jeesh

Listen up ATL, you're not getting back what you paid for him. You can blame/thank your losing culture and Trae's god awful defense for that. League also values picks differently now. In hope the offers this summer are even worse than that.

Probably. Does Kuz move the needle there? I think it's going to take a series of moves to get them competitive. If I'm GS, I'm not coming off those picks unless I'm getting a true star. Their cliff is coming sooner than ours, it's like the convo we're having about the value of our 29 pick. What's the estimated value after your old stars leave or retire?

that's exactly what they would do.

It's what they are doing to DLO. If he had that kind of January with any other team, they would definitely be saying it would take multiple first rounders to land him. Instead we have to give up him, multiple first rounders, and other players for finney-smith and Dimwiddie. It's just nuts.

Teams have come to their senses on selling all of their picks for players. Hawks overplayed their hand and need to get real.

Didn't the Bulls get a big trade exception for Lonzo?

Looks like it was a 10.2 million disabled players exception.

Yep. 12th highest payroll this year for a 9th seed. They can't move LaVine or Ball and don't want to move DD (reportedly) and are $1.7m under the tax, I don't see them adding to it for the caliber of team they are right now. I think the goal is to try to get that play-in home game for ticket and ad revenue and then it's considered a successful season for Reinsdorf.

IF this is a cry for better offers from atlanta, we need to get this one done, imo. we could throw a top-8 protected swap on top of the (hopefully top-5 protected) 2029 pick, jhs, and dlo to push it over the goal line. the swap (turns into 2nds if not conveyed) + jhs makes it look like three 1sts, so some face can be saved.

i agree that the hawks should know that offers aren't likely to improve.

i wonder what utah offered if it didn't exceed this.

fair. i could have seen them going for lavine (no picks outgoing) if he hadn't gone down, but there's not a ton of things that make obvious sense right now. if they want to move moody and kuminga, they could upgrade without losing future picks (if i'm washington, i'd take either plus paul for kuz), but i think lacob is too proud to admit the two-timetable thing failed.

yeah, it's dumb. that said, last year's deadline deals sort of flew in the face of literally all the reporting on dlo, right? it's possible a lot of the reporting is tough talk from gms mixed with wishful thinking from reporters who don't like the lakers. maybe these guys are all saying all this b******* about everyone to everyone, but the press just runs with the negative lakers stuff for either clicks or momentary dopamine rush.
