Austin Reaves Discussion: Foundation Piece Or Trade Piece?

Watching Holiday in his prime kind of bananas NO wasn't better than they were: AD/Jrue is about as good as you can get in terms of a defensive combo. Frankly, I can't think of much better in terms of defensive duos (Pippen/Jordan, Moses/Bobby Jones, Rodman/Sally, Rodman/Admiral, Bowen/Duncan, Billups/Wallace). They stack up pretty damn well to all of those duos.

 

I think Darvin Ham might have a problem with English? What am I missing here? Dan Woike's column in the LA Times has this quote from Ham about AR:

I was going to make the joke until you covered it at the end ….. and yes “he don’t talk good” if those are actual quotes. On top of being a BS artist full of cliches. With the defense first and no politics/(favoritism) claims.

Good one for Austin. Really put together a nice 4th. Distribution is there. Shot is there. Confidence is high. It's gotta be the hair.

 

Austin is taking over. He sacrifices for the good of the team, nice to see him standing out so even the guys that don't really know ball can see it. Of course I'm not referencing anyone here...lol.

 

Definitely a string of some great performances, I still don’t necessarily like him in the PG role.

Not that he can’t do it, it’s moreso that I feel the basis of most of his stretches of struggles has been fatigue. Asking him to consistently run the offense just seems like too much.

 

I loved the slow mo shot ESPN did of Austin directing the offense from the post, then coming up top to set a pick for LeBron and getting the three.

Sorry Austin. Going to have to hope you can convince him to come over as a FA at some point.

 

Woj is such a shameless Nets FO plug lol. When KD/Kyrie were demanding out it was obvious Woj was being fed the Nets' FO position. "Everyone wants to play with Mikal Bridges" lol. He's a very good player, but lets pump the brakes.

Matt Barnes believes the Lakers are unfairly high on Austin Reaves.

“I really love Austin Reeves, he did very well for the Lakers . But I'm reading all these posts about them "only trading him for an All-Star caliber player" and I don't get it. But he's not an allstar, is he? Great, very good role player. But will he be able to pull off this role as the second guy when A.D. goes missing, and the third star in literally every meeting?

I really really like him. But I think the Lakers are overvaluing Austin Reaves . Teams are interested in him, and to really improve, you have to part with him, it seems to me. But they don't want to. Allegedly they will give it away “only for the 3rd star.” But if he was your 3rd star, you wouldn’t even try to break up with him,” the former NBA player said .

F*** off Matt .... this isn't black and white and a lot more nuanced as to what goes into this decision.

 

these former players really don't grasp a lot of stuff, weirdly.

reaves is valuable because a) he's good and b) he makes a league average salary for three more years and outproduces it.

is there another player as good as reaves making this money not on a rookie deal? there's a ton of value there.
