Man, I remember when Kobe did that, just a kid at that All-Star game, one of the coolest things I’d ever seen in a game to that point, as I’d only been watching the NBA since ‘93/‘94.

81 points, 18 years ago to the day. I think I've mentioned this here before but I had the dumb luck of being at Staples that night and got to witness history (I say dumb luck because my dad and I were able to get the tickets on the relative cheap since a Lakers team that wasn't going anywhere that season was playing against an irrelevant Raptors team, on a Sunday night). It was just about the most exciting night of my life, up to that point.

It's always been a bittersweet memory though, because my mom died in an accident about two weeks later, and the two events have always been linked in my mind. An enormous, momentary high, followed immediately by a massive, near endless low. Whenever this date comes around, I can't help but think about both events.

Of course, now it's even more bitter, since Kobe is gone, too. I had always hoped our paths would cross one day and I'd get a chance to tell him how thrilling it was to be in the stands that night.

Regardless of all the pain that is wrapped up in this memory, pain that I know is now shared by every member of this board, I never tire of celebrating this man's life. I show these clips to my little girls all the time and never pass up the chance to tell them what it was like to witness greatness, just like I show them pictures of my mom and tell them she set the model for how to be an exceptional person.

Here's hoping I get to see them both in the next life.

Strange coincidence. So, we inherited a pure bread toy poodle about ten years ago from my Mother In Law- she thought he was too much to take care of.
Last week, he started limping, hopping around on three legs and placing no pressure on his back right foot. We took him to the vet and she said he happened to tear his ACL.
    His name is Kobe.

I remember where I was when Kobe tore his achilles: in a very crowded bar in Walnut Creek, surrounded by GSW fans who HATE the Lakers. I quietly watched. GSW was on their way up. The Lakers? I stood there and my heart sank. It looked really bad. Then he went to the line and sank both FTs. Mamba mentality to the max. Man...

I recently got to the Netflix doc The Redeem Team and I don't mind admitting: the Kobe stuff brought all kinds of tears.

I think I can count on my thumbs the number of things I've watched on Tubi, but I'll check this out. Couple Lakers interviewed in the trailer and several members of the LA media.

Man, even the trailer was hard to get through. I don't think I'm ready to watch something like this. Too painful.

Stark contrast to the foam pool noodles players have their trainers hit them with today. Imagine if Devin Booker's trainer fouled him for real. He'd have that man locked up for assault.

For probably a longer sentence than Spain’s ex womens soccer president gets, having also been criminally charged on top of losing his job for kissing the star player after their victory in his exuberance.

Ooops my bad they want to drop the “womens” delineation for which Spain’s soccer team anyone’s writing about …. too.
