feels like last year. i didn't like most of the deals we saw then, but rob pulled a rabbit out of a hat. it will take something similar to justify another big trade.

I love Austin Reaves and do not want to trade him, but I'm convinced Max Christie has a higher ceiling as a true two way player. I would keep them both as our future foundation unless an AD level trade opportunity comes our way.

None of our role players are untouchable but yeah. We shouldn’t just give them away.

Asset management has been a problem for years.

I’m not hearing any names in the trade rumors that would compel me to blow everything up over.

A trade is not going to save us this year. It’s the whole team culture that sucks in addition to coaching.

AD is having a fantastic season. LBJ takes nights off at 39. It is what it is w/him at this point.

What you can't have is 3 negative defenders next to them. Taurean needs to be the odd man out of the starting 5. At that point, if you insert Jared, you have at least 2 plus defenders and 3 capable rebounders out there.

Russell has the more palatable contract, but you'll have to include younger players and draft compensation to get anything significant. If you want to get increase athleticism in the backcourt with a more capable defender, Murray is is that guy so I hear. Haven't watched his play since SAS consistently.

You also need a two-way wing. They don't need to be great. They just can't played off the floor (defensively and offensively,)...

I don't think those two moves make you a championship team, but they put you in a better position than you're in now depending that you're being frugal what what's going out; although, that needs to be balanced w/it takes quality to get quality.

I'm actually optimistic. I think we'll be fine.

I’m really high on Max as well. However, I could let him go if we were getting Murray back.

Murray is a nice young player, and I would love to get him for what was reported was almost a done deal of Dlo, JHS, a first and a second or two. I would personally not trade Max for Murray. Max is already a better three point shooter than Murray, and can defend a bit better. Murray is a better playmaker. What would be nice is a lineup going into next year of AD / LBJ / Max / Reaves / Murray.

Well, if we could keep Max out of it, I would prefer this, but we all know how negotiations go. If ATL doesn’t find a better deal, they surely will ask us for another piece. Murray was already an All Defensive selection and with a real coach, can easily get back there.

Murray has been having an incredible week on the court, especially with Trae Young missing games. It’s been an opportunity for Murray to showcase himself as a teams primary point guard and good lord is he nice.

18 months ago he was a player that got traded for 3 1st rounders, which spoke to how he was viewed as an ascending premier point guard. He’s also on a non-max contract, and at $25 mil for the next 3 seasons he’s on a reasonable contract for what he provides on the court.

I hope this somehow happens for the Lakers, Murray is too good of a player at that price to pass up. He’s worth our one remaining 1st in 2029, JHS and DLo if that’s what it takes.

I understand that the Lakers like AR but I don’t understand their reluctance to trading him.He is a good player but he obviously isn’t a game changer so why are they reluctant to the point of making him unavailable?.It seems like bad business if the reports are true.

I think we are more open to trading him than we are letting on. I also think we are worried about letting a good player on a good contract go.

Also may be holding out for using him in a deal to get a bigger fish this summer.

yeah, i don't buy "untouchable". he's a great value at his contract, locked up for two years past this. a small market team would LOVE to have him as a primary return on an outgoing star. i think that's what it would take for us to move him. like, if cleveland really wanted to move on from mitchell, what a great sell for the fans there. i think the publication of his protected status is in service to that message: if you're selling a top-20 nba player, you can get reaves (e.g., mitchell for reaves/rui/russell/unprotected 29, swap). otherwise, nope. worth way more to us.

Yeah, I agree. Of course he's "treadeable," and would be a great piece in a trade for an actual star. But it has to be the right deal. Certainly nothing that was discussed lately.

Agree. I want Ham fired as much as the next guy but even if that happens, I don’t think this is a championship team. They find new ways to disappoint me, every game.

I don't think it's the main issue, but I would like more consistency from our starting SF. This months #s

Negotiation tactic from the other teams?

Injuries and Ham have hurt Rui's value. Gabe derailed our season apparently as far as roster construction and as a trade asset according to Ham's pressers and Rob's shortsighted approach to collecting broken Heat players.

We have a long history of being interested in him, but outside of the unprotected 1st I don't see the path since we can send out one player. Maybe this summer he makes more sense. If we're giving up on that pick, I'd rather do what it takes to get Murray instead of burning it on Brown.

I don't buy it because they're a rebuilding small market team. Brogdon and Grant are the only two players older than 26 on that roster. Could you give them a couple assets, a 1st, handful of 2nds, and smaller salaries that break that money up for them (like we did with Russ). Would Rui, DLO, Gabe, Lewis, JHS, 29 1st and four second rounders be enough? We have interest in both their guys, I'm sure there's been at least a conversation about packaging them together.

Yeah, I'm out on Rozier due to defensive and size limitations.

Trent I'll take but I'm not giving up much for him. I use the fact that he's expiring and Klutch to play both angles. Gabe, Prince, Lewis and a couple seconds is my best offer.

Here's how Irwin put it on of his pods this week (not exact wording but this is the gist)...
Jeanie loves him and doesn't want to move him (tough choices were made before -- Luke, Magic, her brothers, etc. but if she doesn't have to, she's not gonna). The discovered and groomed aspect matters and sees him as a homegrown star. They also don't want another pie in the face situation like AC.

He's not untouchable, but if you're not getting a 3rd star to LA then he's safe. Whether that's Mitchell, someone who's yet to voice their displeasure, or a team who's yet to hit the rebuild button fully (Nets and Bridges was one he threw out as a wishful scenario).
