Right: The boys got paid especially the two way players

Wrong: it did not count in the standings which is stupid

It’s pretty hard to deny at this point objectively.

Over the course of the season, we need our 3 point shooting to improve because it takes pressure off of AD and Lebron. If they play the whole regular season like this, they will be injured in the finals. 3 point shooting is like DLO, great regular season methodology but will not see a ton of time in the finals.

I love this idea! It reminds everyone who plays there in the future that we own this arena as well- until they can beat us in next year’s Tournament.

They can’t leave the Banner in Vegas, T mobile arena is the home of Vegas Golden Knights .

They should just hang it in El Segundo facility. Jeanie probably will frame it and hang it in her office .

just as long as they don't hang that s*** at staples

or actually, maybe they should just to force the clippers to have to make another selfie banner to cover it

Not sure if this is the right thread for this, but here's my take on Adam Silver's In Season Tournament: it worked the way he wanted it to work. Lebron said something after the win: that the fans start to take December games with a bit of a yawn. (Not us at LakersBall, of course: I'll still get nervous before a November game against the Wizards.)

We won it, which is cool.

But it should count in the standings. My thing is that the REAL CHAMPIONSHIP in June is everything: this IST is an exciting add-on. IND is scheduled to play us in LA on March 24th: okay. Five days later we're scheduled to play them in Indiana: I think we should have a WIN for that game. Skip the 29th in IND: we already beat these guys in a high-stakes game.

Finally: I saw few in the media say this, but if AD, Tyrese, or Lebron had suffered a season-ending injury in a game that DIDN'T COUNT towards the actual, real season: the experiment would have suddenly been seen as a disaster. Because of these risks, every game should count in the standings. Especially the win over IND. Our scrubs made BANK in the game: good for them! But we play 83 games. That extra game takes its toll. I don't like that it doesn't count among the 82. That needs to be fixed in my opinion.

i agree, but it's about the ticket sales for that game in indy (which will be their highest gross of the year, right?). the players seemed to take the game seriously enough to ignore that it's not part of the regular season record, imo.

if indy beats us both games, we'll still be like...yeah, but you lost when it counted...ironically...

After I posted I realized how many problems I overlooked: like what if our only game at Indiana had already been played this season, etc? And yea: those tix have already been sold and plans made for the Lakers to come to Indianapolis on March 29.

I guess I just have a problem with a high-stakes game during the season not meaning anything in the actual standings. (TBH and maybe I'm just gettin' really old, but I generally don't like any changes of any sort, with some exceptions. Is the Coach's Challenge an unqualified success? I don't think so. The stoppage of play blows. OTOH, all true fans want some play that was truly blown by the refs to be able to be rectified. I remember watching the old ABA games on Saturday afternoon - yea, I'm that old - and thinking, "the NBA should steal this 3 point idea, but the red/white/blue ball has got to go..." Adding the 3-pt shot was a great rule change, I think.)

To return to the riff about Silver vs. us not needing any extra drama during the season: we - like fans who post here - really only care about winning it all in June. We don't need extra drama. However the consensus seems to be that Silver's idea did gin up a lot of excitement and drama among all those...other fans. (Can you imagine the Clipper fans if the Clips won the IST? How would we feel about it? Exactly...)

It bothers me that the IST title game means nothing as far as what we REALLY care about, is all I'm saying.

i still don't like the IST at all. couldn't cares less that they "won". it's nothing more than a cash grab for the league who knew they had to do something to make the regular season bearable with all the load management BS that's been happening. if they really care about making the regular season more entertaining, they would've put an end to that years ago

but it would've been hilarious to see a team like the knicks or clippers winning it just for all the "it took them that long to win a title and it's a made up one" memes that would've made the rounds

Pretty much agree. They could at least make it help the team who won in the seedings for the playoffs. Like, guarantee a spot and be the leading tie breaker for any questionable matchups. They have to do something to add on to this. Lebron and the Lakers did their part, the league has to now add onto it and make it work reasonably.

they’d have to find a way to compensate a team for 1/41 of lost revenue from home games

i think this is the real issue, and honestly it was a little annoying as a laker fan. did you see lebron boxing out and AD running the floor to get position on both ends? that stuff only happens in the playoffs these days, and it's why we win 46 games instead of 56, imo.

load management in an ethos. it says these games don't matter enough. the problem then, is that there are too many games. the league could easily trim the schedule to 76 or even 72 games with no problem, but i'm not even sure that would do it. what something like that could do, however, is eliminate b2bs (seriously, imagine if our team in particular didn't have these) and create more opportunities for nights where there are only a couple games total, so the games get more media and fan attention.

anyway, that's what the IST highlighted for me--these guys truly do not care very much about regular season games.

Yeah, it should be in the 50s. 82 + post-season is too much today. But that'll never happen. Owners aren't going to give up 30ish games of revenue between local TV deals and gate revenue. Some mom and pop shops like the Hornets and Lakers (I kid, I kid... kinda) can't afford that.

Then there's the whole stat issue. Milestones would never be touched if player A played 300 fewer games than player B over a 10 year career.

Agree that back to backs need to go. There's no reason for it.

Also fewer games on big nights would be helpful. Like during the rivalry week they tried to make a thing, if only Lakers vs C Bags and GS vs Grizz (healthy) were the only two games on... maybe it's more significant.

Agreed with everything you just said. I think maybe we need to make IST LONGER and expand it more...make it similar to March Madness...make it last for 2 months...December - January...or January to February (leading up to trade deadline). Something like that idk. The IST was a BIG hit and if we want to build off of its success, we need to expand it and make it tougher, longer, and up the stakes a bit...maybe the winner guaranteed gets an extra MLE? or they get a guaranteed top 14 pick with extra lotto balls? Or maybe they guarantee themselves HCA in the playoffs so long as they're in the top 6 when the season is over? Also...up the winnings to $1M per player...THere's SO many things that they can do to add onto it...and make the regular season REALLY interesting!

Maybe teams just need to have solid depth of players so they can coast a bit during the regular season?

The freaking All Star game is unwatchable and sounds like they’re trying to do something with that too. No more “drafting” crap at least.
