That would be Dlo, and probably Rui, and a few 1st. I say no he’s not that good, and I’m actually a Jrue fan.

He just doesn’t make sense for our team right now with what we’d likely have to give up, his age and contract situation.

I agree that it doesn't make sense. If Jrue was 27 and in the same age window with our young core then, for sure. But at 33 with a Max contract at the end of next season it would be a one year rental. Now way I move Rui + Dlo for a season rental.

Yes it would be Dlo Rui and at least one first (2029). Again, I do that in a heartbeat. Dlo is fine for regular season but Jrue is an absolutely clutch performer. Again, we are lacking defense at the guard position. That's the one glaring weakness of this team IMO. Guys like Booker, Murray and Beal are going to give us problems. Jrue actually makes perfect sense for our squad. We are in win now mode with Lebron. How many seasons do you realistically think he has left? Jrue puts us over the top right now.

I love Rui but the forward position is log jammed right now and while it's a luxury to have him I'd much prefer a starting elite defensive guard like Holiday. We can survive with Prince and Vando at the three.

If Jrue was 27 he wouldn't be attainable at all. Dlo is a rental as is and he's nowhere near the player that Holiday is. Rui is a nice player. But you have to give something up to get something and we are overly stacked at the small forward whereas we don't have a lock down defense guard let alone one of the very best in the game. You guys are acting like he's old. 33 is not old. Mike Conley is old, and he had a great season last year. Speaking of last seasons Jrue averaged 19, 5 boards and 7 assists a game with 47% shooting. And once again, he's probably top 3 elite defensive guard in the NBA. Rui and Dlo is too much for a championship pedigree player at a position of need? I'd do it in a heartbeat as I said.

In the post season if we make it that far we are going to have to battle with Booker, Beal, Murray. We don't have anyone on the roster currently who can handle those assignments. Jrue can.

I’d love to get Jrue, he is an ideal piece next to Lebron and AD.

    Jrue / Vincent
    Reaves / Christie
    Vanderbilt / Reddish
    Lebron / Prince
    AD / Wood

I’ve seen enough of the three declining star formula to try that again.

Like TIME said above signing Jrue would be a rental. Jrue has a player option at the end of next season which he will exercise so he can sign a bigger contract after the new TV deal and contracts go way up. I want no part of a 35 year old guard making obscene figures.

But say we did sign him after his option. We would get 1-2 seasons from him max before he’s on decline and not worth the contract we’d have to give him as a 34 year old guard, or LeBron exits and Jrue’s contract looks even worse as our second best (declining) player.

If he was younger, sure. You have him develop along with Austin and Max, but at 33 today, Jrue is too old for a rental. As it is, you’re betting on one season from him and I’m not willing to take that bet with all we’d be giving up and risk of injury to one of our stars derailing the whole thing.

Moreover, I think we have enough to contend as currently constructed. I’m not willing to trade away that much young talent to bet we win in the 1-2 years window before LeBron retires or goes to another team and Jrue starts to decline.

Yeah I imagined Jrue to LA would be heavily split. I'm not sure as well.

    Pros:
You maximize the current window. We are undeniably top 3 contenders for the next 2 years
He's a great fit to this roster in terms of pure basketball
Improves the biggest flaw of our roster (a guard stopper)

    Cons:
He'll soon start to decline and we don't know when
He already talked about retiring, don't think he's playing for long (not even sure he's counting on that extension)
We lose Rui (or whoever to match salaries in addition to Dlo)
We lose a FRP (at least)
We lose some of the leverage we built to be a top candidate to do a major deal to replace LeBron for the next disgruntled star in 2/3 years

If we get a ring out of it, isn't it worthy? AD may get seriously injured in the next couple years or we may not be able to snatch that superstar in the future. This deal would be a win-now move and is more "safe".

Rui and D'Angelo plus picks is too much for Jrue. That's giving up too much offense and versatility, for a guy that isn't going to lock down any high end scorer in the West, in a 7 game series. No

You gotta be able to score..defense is great, but a great offense will beat a great defense. Denver is a testament to that. The only team that really gave them any problem, was Phoenix, before Paul went down for the series, because the Suns could score at pace with the Nuggets.

Hell..the Bucks traded for the offense, over the defense didn't they?

The Suns have 19 players under contract, so they aren't done making moves. I really hope that they don't upgrade at 5 over Nurkic, that guy can't guard a chair.

i think it would be different from russ because jrue fits way better and makes substantially less (we wouldn't be full of vet mins outside of him). i also don't think of rui has a real long-term centerpiece (nor dlo, obviously), so this is why i'd be inclined. however, i don't see the point of the debate, as we can't move these guys until december (or were they technically extensions and thus it's january?), and whoever gets holiday is getting him soon, i think.

maybe this is a pre-debate for whatever third star type becomes available this year between december and february, though. in which case, the beauty is that we will have a couple months of data at our disposal at that point. if we're not doing well, we'll be looking for holiday types. if we are, we won't. it's just great to not feel like you HAVE to make moves like this or else. remember the mood around here a year ago?

relatedly, your last point definitely rings true for me. any trade about contention has to be made considering gray areas like "how much closer does this actually move us" versus how far in the hole does this put us, post-lebron. similar to the russ trades, but from a much better starting point. when you're already a contender, you can be much pickier.

Jrue averages like 20ppg. We have LeBron, AD, Reaves, Wood for offense.
Bucks didn't "trade for offense". They traded for a superstar.

Btw, Jrue to Warriors makes a ton of sense. It would be a great fit there

I guess so, he didn't sign any contract extension or whatever, which I think is what makes trade ineligible until a certain date, right? (NBA has so many rules that sometimes I get lost ahah)

Yeah they would have to send something else. Maybe a FRP and Kuminga/Moody could entice Portland.

Having Scoot learn with CP3 for a year would be good for him (and Portland). But it would be awful for CP lol

i think it's about trade dates in this case, but i think it's 60 days, and that's passed. so he's eligible to be moved as part of a package.

and no, no way paul agrees to this. which may be fine. portland could just waive him, and he could sign with the clippers. what would portland demand for eating the salary on a player to be waived? as you said, probably one of kuminga or moody + something else. is it worth it for gs after that? they were thin already.

they need a backup PG more than a starter

can't see them losing young talent for that move, one that wouldn't help put them over the top. They are too small as a team really.

Yeah they are thin for sure (and really small).

Don't think they care about youth. They are riding the 3 stars until the end and then tank hard. Just traded Poole for CP3 and Kuminga/Moody have potential but won't be cornerstones of any future, so I think they are gone for the right player

Really curious to see where Jrue lands, I think he moves the needle for many teams with a short window

    100%

4 teams I watch: Clipps, GS, Mia, BOS

Those are the 4 contenders that need it the most or would max out their chances.
