Not only are Bron and AD are the only two who are in their 30s, but 9 players have 5 years of experience or fewer (12 if you count the two way guys).

He has three reclamation projects he needs to get through to.

Handy has his work cut out for him with the kids. If he maximizes this group, he should get the assistant coach award.

I have said this before and not even joking. We need to lock Handy up for life. Our scouts keep feeding him like they have been, and this guy will keep us legit every year. Give him his own shoe contract or something. I will buy a pair to keep him in LA whether they are any good or not. I'm guessing they would be the best shoe ever made. I have always said no one is irreplaceable but I don't know who we could get to replace Handy. Plus, he will come back at the best of them. I love coaches that stand by what they say.

i feel like we shouldn't fumble this one. i don't think anyone will offer him a HC position, and that's probably the only line i wouldn't cross to keep him around. short of that, somebody has to try to money whip him into leaving la. that's a tall order on both fronts given that coaching salaries aren't part of the cap.

Yeah, I want him to be a Laker for life. He's 52, give him a 15 year deal. He's the best development guy in the game and also has the rare position to have the ear of the top guys...Bron and AD listen to him. Usually those two lanes don't intersect.

That's my only concern is that he did/does have HC aspirations. Anytime one of these teams are stockpiling picks and young players (OKC, HOU), I get nervous because he'd be the ideal hire of you need 10 recent first round picks developed.

Seems like his spoken love is for the teaching and development though and is there really enough “time” to do both well with all that would take? He’s got the front seat on the bench now and definitely should pay him like one to keep him here if all possible.

^Charge. Hachimura used his forearm and leverage to shed Handy in the post. Props to Handy as he popped back up liked nothing happened.

uhhh...i'm going to assume we've got a wink/wink with him. one of the few times the "family atmosphere" benefits the organization.

    if not...

Watch out for Dallas if Kidd doesn't get fired. Kidd, Dudz and Kyrie all with Handy ties.

I like Handy, wanted him to take over midseason and wasn’t opposed to him replacing Ham now, but I definitely think we’re overvaluing him. Not going to lose sleep if he finds a job elsewhere. As someone else said, it’s not like we have a strong track record of development.

He's considered by most to be the best in the business at what he does. That's the only position not filled by an active player that you can say that about regarding someone employed by the Lakers. That alone is reason enough to hold on to him for dear life.

Oh crap!!! I bet not, and I did Not expect this.

I hope you are right and I’m dead wrong.

“Maybe” if they were firing the whole staff he had to get it too for optics, but to actually do that I just can’t see him being the kind of guy to agree to that kind of shady stuff if there was a wink wink.

I think it was optics. If they fired Ham and the whole staff if would have looked odd to not do him too. I don't have any confidence but I hope there is a wink wink here that the next coach can bring Phil back. Problem is how long will that be, and is he even down with it at this point and opens the door for some other team to throw a real nice contract at him that he wouldn't mind working for.

I disagree, I think Rui’s game did improve once he became a starter especially. He was up to 15 ppg, 50% shooting overall and 43% from three. That’s solid for your 4th/5th best player averaging 30 minutes a game. The problem for me was his regression against Denver. He was awful in the playoffs.
