He doesn’t look Japanese



not a fan of guys jumping countries for Intl play tournaments

 

yeah, while i don't think you have to "look japanese", playing for the national team is supposed to be about some real connection to the country, right? like if kobe had played for italy, i could have understood it, as he grew up for a while there. some of these guys basically never spent any real time as residents/citizens of the country they're playing for.

kind of an interesting case in hawkinson, though, as he basically moved to japan to play basketball and so maybe feels like the country made his dream of being a pro come true? i could see it. he grew up in seattle, though.



i've heard it's hard to become a japanese citizen.

 

He's the best at rebounding at his own blown layups. That should be an official NBA stat - the Drummond - how many boards a player gets off his own misses.

Definitely one of the most unique skillsets I've ever seen; blow a wide open layup off a beautiful pass, tip the ball which has no chance of going in, maybe get two hands after the tip only to get another weak a** layup rejected.

 

Should we sign him ?

Yes, very hard, but as we have seen, professional athletes seem to be exceptions to the rule. Good for him. Wonder if he had learned the language. I'm afraid if that was required, I'd have to pass. I can't see learning Japanese (Reading, writing, or speaking)

Was pretty neutral on bringing in Wood, but now that he’s here let’s hope that he contributes. The tweet from The Athletic announcing the news included a projected starting lineup with Wood in it and Abuja retweeted it. I think there’s a very real chance Wood ends up starting.

Wood has a lot to prove. We got him for cheap so it’s a low risk high reward for us. We’ve been good at the reclamation projects. Hopefully this will be another success story.

some tidbits here, but it's mostly more glossing over that morey obviously promised him cash illegally then changed his mind, knowing harden had no recourse. can't say that without losing access to morey, though. and he's been a media asset (and vice versa) for his entire career.
