don't think i hated a player more than i hated malone prior to 03. that all changed in 03-04. he was willing to change his game to fit the triangle and basically do whatever it took for the team to have success. such a shame how badly the lakers medical staff handled his knee injury and yet, he was still out there in the playoffs successfully defending prime KG and duncan on one leg at age 40. even played a couple games in the finals before he just couldn't do it anymore

 

ironically, miami is the place whiteside was able to have his best years. they're pretty much the new spurs in terms of guys looking good there and bad as soon as they leave (i actually have questions about how bam would look elsewhere, tbh).

this is why i'm a little worried about vincent. nunn's already out of the league after looking similarly good in miami before leaving.

 

Or maybe it’s the discipline/structure/accountability they needed and received. Maybe s player goes there and gets more out of his talent than in a less structured environment.

 

They also have very good scouts and similar to us, find these guys late in the draft, undrafted guys . I don't think we have a large enough sample of whether those guys are system based or just good. We'll get a better idea this year with Vincent and with Strus in Cleveland (he bounced around a bit until they signed him, but also undrafted). The perk with these guys is they're typically hungry and play with a chip. Hoping that's more the case with Vincent.
