he kinda started dropping off last year, and i've seen speculation that NO is trying to dump him because he lost a step in a way that makes him substantially less valuable.

his contract is up this year, so i could see it if we struggle and need a center later in the year, but i'm doubting it.

 

It's unreal how much disrespect Hakeem gets: in his prime, he whooped Shaq, Malone, the Admiral, and Ewing in the playoffs. He also won with fairly middling talent compared to other superstars

Come on it's absolutely ridiculous that anyone would not include him in the top 10 and put in guys like Malone and Iverson.
He's in the conversation with being a top 5 defensive player of all time plus maybe the best post-game in NBA history: that is a hell of a combination.

 

Numbers support that he dropped off: 538 raptor shows a big dropoff last year. That being said he was very good for the 2 seasons prior and NO rotations/injuries were a mess last year.

 

It's tough, Wilt vs Kareem vs Hakeem, all in their prime!!

Laker fans have a tendency to look at both Wilt and Kareem after their primes. They were still great but they don't remember the year when Kareem averaged 34.8pts 16.6rbs and 4.6asts not to mention his blocks which were over 3 per game but they didn't keep the stats. Wilt is kind of the same, people know he scored massively but most people never saw him do that. If they saw him, they saw him in his later years.

Nah, there are just too many great players to name the top 10 and have it be unequivocally right.

 

It's an exercise in futility heaped with biases based upon the era one started truly watching the game.

He's never brought up as a guy who could have played in the wrong era, either. His style would be unreal in today's game.

 

He would absolutely embarrass guys like Embiid and KAT. He would also be too strong for AD.

i'm an olajuwon fan, but we're going overboard here, imo.

i do agree that shaq, in particular, should have more respect, as hakeem was definitely his father in that finals series.

 

I dunno man. Maybe I'm biased because he's one of my favorite players ever, but he was just awesome. I truly think he's one of the top 12 players ever.

And Shaq has to give him those props. Am I mistaken, or did Shaq not always talk insanely high of him in the past? Saying Dream was better than him, etc?

 

The off season sucks so much that now I'm just curious/looking for content. What are people's top-10s? No ranking needed. Just a top 10.
