Might have myocarditis like so many others in the last couple of years, and an abbreviated career. Will the college even let him play now? Will any pro team draft him?

    very unfortunate

Glad to see he's doing okay and out of the ICU. If I had to guess and based on his fast recovery so far, he likely he had an abnormal heart rhythm similar to the soccer player Christian Eriksen when he collapsed on the field at EURO 2021. They will probably have to put in a defibrillator to prevent future episodes from happening.

I don't think he has myocarditis, which is usually caused by viral illnesses and gets better with time. A lot of patients would also endorse chest pain and some other symptoms with it. I assume you're thinking of an enlarged heart, which a lot of athletes do have given how much exercise they do, and their hearts are bigger than ours with a lower heart rate. Shaq's son also had his heart issues and needed open heart surgery.

He's going to get the battery of cardiac testing to look at how his heart works, but as mentioned above, I think it sounds like a dangerous abnormal heart rhythm and he'll likely get a defibrillator. Best wishes to him, Lebron, and his family and hope he makes a full recovery.

In the case of Eriksen, he plays for Manchester United as England is okay with pro players playing with a defibrillator. I think there was a player who was drafted (Keyontae Johnson) who had a cardiac arrest and now is playing for the Thunder.

Yep: it's a great thing that arenas and the like now have automated defibrillators now - if they were around there is a good chance Hank Gathers and Reggie Lewis would have survived. They'll have to take a look to see if there is a structural problem like hypertrophic cardiomyopathy which is common among athletes: I think that pro teams check for this with echocardiograms/ultrasound but not sure if college sports requires it.

There's some real miracle therapies/drugs/supplements these days.. maybe he can avoid permanent damage. Overtraining is dangerous for young bucks have a feeling they were pushing the limits..

Basketball isn't important at the end of the day, he can do anything he wants if 'ball isn't a possibility anymore. Wishing the kid the best~

Wonder if Bron retires if Bronny can’t play, or if we waits in Bryce

yeah, it's gross to talk about right now, but it could definitely have some impact on what lebron does after this year, i think, in several possible directions.

Didn't realize that USC had this happen to another basketball player Vince Iwuchukwu in 2022. He was able to return to play basketball in January 2023. Bronny is in good hands to recover from this.

A brief refresher on Vince Iwuchukwu’s medical progress last season (usatoday.com)

Scary stuff for the James family. I'm hoping for the best with Bronny. Things like this do put sports in perspective. Health is the most important thing in life.

Wow. That is one sobering description of this new reality for both Bronny and the entire rest of his family. Some previously unimaginable dialogue and soul searching as a family is here just like that. Boom. But as well certainly it’s NOT unique and undoubtedly all the high end research with leading specialists will be done to help with decisions.

Damn. Scary, indeed. Glad they caught it when they did, could've been much worse outcome here. Hopefully he's going to be OK moving forward and can do what he wants, NBA or otherwise.

Idk why but "popular doctor" is funny to me lol.

On a serious note, I really hope that's not the case and Bronny still gets to have a long basketball career. He has every excuse to be an entitled a****** with his dad being one of the richest and most popular athletes ever and clearly using his stature to get Bronny into the league, but by all accounts Bronny is a really great kid that works hard and plays the game selflessly. Says a lot about his character, and about LeBron and Savannah as parents.
