Hopefully JHS would not rank among the Mo Wagner and Anthony Brown stinker picks

Yeah Mo didn’t suck. Magic of course thought more of Bongo and didn’t give a crap about bigs we had.

Worthy was a freak athlete though too. Him and Amare had the quickest steps for guys that big I've ever seen.

Always wondered what numbers a prime Worthy would have put up as the number one option on a bad team

The thing is he has a way better 3 PT shot then JHS and also shot better then him in college. So not only does have elite athleticism, he is also currently is better at the most important skill in the modern NBA. Double whammy here.

Whitmore had a mediocre to bad game to finish summer league, so yeah, only fair I mention that, 2-8 from 3, 6-17 overall 14 points. Of course I’m still rooting for JHS, it’s over and done with, he’s our player, I just didn’t see it in summer league.

There were other reasons. Ask the Clipper center about that.

think i said in the other thread it will be a while until we see whether it was a bad pick. it's possible whitmore has bad knees or is really a problem off the court. it's possible jhs develops a respectable shot (moreso than cranjis and company suggest, imo). it's also possible (probable, given history) that nobody picked at 17 or later becomes a player you feel bad about missing on from a realistic standpoint (nobody was second-guessing not drafting jokic at the time; it was a complete surprise).

i do agree that jhs was largely uninspiring in summer league, though. but again, as i said in the other thread, i'm not sure his game is the kind that shines in a summer league situation, whereas whitmore's is.

I don't see Worthy in the athletic freak category because he was not a leaper. But yeah, he had an insane first step and was unstoppable in the post. He also ran the floor like an antelope. If Cap had retired after the 85 season and Worthy was featured as the #1 option with Magic setting him up he could have averaged between 25-28ppg for sure.

Big Game is the type of player that would be successful in any era of the NBA- so skilled, so smooth, and had an extensive offensive arsenal.
I still remember watching Amare early in his career and not believing how incredibly quick he was for such a big dude. He and Hakeem were in the upper echelon of bigs who somehow defied physics. First couple of seasons Shaq(Orlando) was also incredibly nimble before he started packing on the muscle.
