I know it’s summer league, but we and some other teams maaaaay have messed up on Whitmore, he looks like a ready to play now guy
I’m totally fine with passing on a kid that already has attitude issues. I think gambling on a vet who’s looking to rehab his image is much easier to accept. I couldn’t stand Bynum after he started letting his real personality show(parking in handicap spaces and other stuff).
definitely got paul pierce vibes as i saw him drop. i don't think he's that level, but similar circumstances around the projections/fall. the guy has a ton of talent.
The simplest rule is draft the best talent available, when you get cute, you might miss out on franchise altering players.
We're not going to hit a home run with every draft decision, but we have a pretty good slugging percentage going. Add in stealing Reaves and Castleton without using a pick and I'm happy to give the FO lots of leeway for passing on Whitmore.
Anthony Edwards lite. When you're out of the lottery don't understand not rolling the dice on him. It's like watching ANT in his rookie year with him and he was the number one pick that year
He had a nice stretch of hustle/ high energy plays to close the 3rd Q. Ugly game for most of the team though.
Whitmore's athleticism definitely jumps out in Summer League; also has some decent defense. Houston has a lot of wings and signed Jeff Green, so it seems unlikely he will get much run initially. I think he might've made more sense as a pick considering we got Vincent and kept D'lo. I'd imagine he would've been our Cam Reddish project, except without the history of failing the NBA. Guess time will show us if his knee is as bad as Lonzo's or Brandon Roy's. I also see a lot of people going crazy over the Thompson Twins over their playing ability, athlecism. We will see how it translates to real NBA games. Kevin Knox dominated Summer League and look where he's at now.
lol, so i finally tune in to a summer league game, and we look wholly inept and go down 12-0. i turned it off. seems like things improved (because they had to).
i was disappointed with how jhs and castleton let memphis's beef boys just get right in their grill and gum up the offense. blow by those chunksters if they're going to pressure you out past the three point line. that set the entire tone. just got punked.
NBA experience in full display. If they got the best of Roddy, that would be problematic. He logged over 1200 minutes in the regular season and appeared in 6 playoff games. Now maybe they should've been able to do better against Lofton because he is 400 pounds and if you can't beat him in a foot race then your name is Cole Swider.
Actually, this years SL was/is one of the better ones in recent years. Some sick plays and performances in general... none from the Lakers though (except that one Figueroa dunk).
His entire time on the floor was the most fun for me since we had Lonzo and B.I. together in the Summer League.
