I really don’t think Portland wanted to tear it down. Even if they were never going to be a contender, I think they would have preferred to keep Dame. Stay competitive and sell tickets.

There were some recent reports that Dame’s wishlist for Portland to convince him to stay would involve re-signing Grant (amongst other pipe dreams, like getting Draymond)

If Dame made his trade demand a few days ago, I think Portland maybe doesn’t make that same offer to Grant. He kinda screwed them

 

The timing is suspect, but not as suspect as giving Grant that contract. Woof.

 

It’s going to be us vs Miami next year. We will win it in 6.

 

If he wants Miami, he's going there. They'll do right by him for staying in purgatory this long.

…. and being a backstabber, hated for his agent days that no other GMs would ever do business with, over his head and if he was any good the Westbrook trade would not have happened. He could have told LeBron and AD no, who’d delivered the franchise a ring like 18 months earlier. Granted very rough on the margins for a period, some of that undoubtedly Jeanie’s pocketbook but he’s getting better there too and I think we have a “grinding” workaholic good one who has always got plans B and C lined up and no leaks of any import coming out any more regarding his moves. Empowers his outstanding talent evaluators and scouts both on college and already Pro options.

 

I would like another big man, but this is another reason it might make sense to bring back Beasley.

Read that with all our signings, we’re about $39M under the hard cap.

So if you can get DLo at $16M, Reaves at $12M, you could still bring back Beasley for maybe $7M. And still have sufficient breathing room under the hard cap to maintain flexibility or make another minimum signing down the line.

Point being, that’s additional salary you could use down the line in a trade. And potentially still a more effective player than whoever else would realistically still be available for the minimum.
