I don't see how this ends up being the case, as you said, health permitting. That would mean a full season of Kobe and Randle. An even better Clarkson. Possibly a great rookie campaign by a future franchise player. Not to mention Mitch always manages to salvage better players than we expect after striking out on the big names.
I'm not buying that it's just a "pity meeting". Why would LMA waste his time like that? Whatever he had in mind that bumped the Lakers up on his list is still capable of being shown, I'm guessing. Troof.
Mitch to LMA: "Speaking of which, we just signed DJ" DJ walks in door Mitch:" Paper work for a S&T from Port has been processed and delivered. Sign here. Now GTFO out of my office and go play basketball."
At this point, I don't think we have much else to lose by meeting with him again. Pretty much every other option is gone.
I don't think it's JUST A pity meeting but Aldridge's agent needs to work with LA and after all this he may have trouble doing that.
This is where signing RoLo or having him on the phones would have been huge. He would clearly be playing the 4, Randle at the backup 3/4.
And although I think its a long shot we sign him, I don't think its just a pity meeting. It doesn't take a full meeting to try and mend feelings. Also, we were at one point in his top two. If we have a shot at salvaging this whole thing, we have to take it.
