Brooks is top 5 in the league in most defensive metrics. D-Lebron, chasing, opp FG% on Js. He's an idiot, but he's very good in that end

Yeah, he was good defensively, but my overall point was that his bark was much, much bigger than his bite. His inability to shoot against us was a huge help.
    From the field: 38%, 35, 23, 36, 20, 36%
    From three: 22%, 30, 20, 14, 20, 40%
He was supposed to be their third guy when it came to offense, but he choked, bigtime.

Also, he looked much better than he would have if LeBron weren’t injured.

Yeah … but we still have to sweat over worrying about HBK getting injured while being proud as hell of him making that USA squad. (if he sticks)

Can’t take away a kid’s dream when it’s right there for the taking. I relate to your sentiment though- 100%.

Sigh. If the USA NT did not offer the spot, HBK would have just join the Germans. I now think it’s an active strategy of the US to just to prevent talent from joining other national teams when they also took Banchero away from the Italians.

Probably another consideration for not taking Whitmore with Rui, LeBron and Jarred all getting minutes over his likely transition time needed from college to work on his weaknesses. And hopefully Gabriel comes back. Speaking of Gabriel are any of the Laker twitter guys speculating if we're planning OR going to be able to retain him?

I’m not sure if he settled for 12m. I feel like it’ll be closer to that 18-20m mark. Hopefully we get a nice surprise.

Would love to keep Rui at 4 years, 15 each = $60 million. If it takes more per year maybe a shorter contract?

If he and his agent can get it to that range, it's a big win for them. Recency bias is a big factor on Rui's evaluation, I think the pros (GM, agents, players) tend to let that influence less than pundits and regular fans

I'm more curious to see the length of the contract. He has benefits to sign a shorter one, because if he continues what he did at spurts in the playoffs and grows from there, he'll likely get over 20mil easy. He's one of the biggest candidates for 6th man of the year.

On another hand, 6 months ago he was a fringe rotation player so it might be his last chance to get over 50mil if he doesn't maintain the playoff level he showed.

Cap space is also expected to grow after the new TV deal so let's see what he does.

Worth reminding that he only scored 10+ points in HALF the playoff games. Considering he doesn't do much else on the stat sheet, it basically means he was a borderline non-factor
in HALF the playoff games. That's huge but most people only remember the big games and the fact he was a perfect fit against Denver.

Have we lost to the Warriors and the narrative would be so different. In 6 games, he scored 21 in a blowout LOSS, then 2, 4, 5, 6 and 9pts. He made 1 triple in those 5 games, 3 assist in the WHOLE series and only once 3+ rebs (5). Is that a 20mil player?

i think his real value is just over the mle. if someone comes knocking with 20 per or something, we should swallow the bitter pill and let him walk, imo. i wish we didn't have to make decisions on bamba/beasley before we know what rui signs for. that's why i'd been hoping we'd hammer something out with rui before he fielded any RFA offers.

    We don't have to

It can be extended if both parties can agree to push it out. As of a couple weeks ago that sounded unlikely according to one of the beat writers (forget which one).

I would imagine that's a favor to ownership, but pretty hard to see how that would be in the player's advantage financially. Now if he wants to stay, understands he'll be a millionaire many times over regardless, then maybe. But young and first major contract? I'm thinking you don't allow the ranks of potential suitors to thin while you wait on your team.

yeah, it makes sense if someone thinks that last year might beat the value on most multi-year offers. for example, i think dallas has reggie bullock owed between 5 and 10 million, but he's not making that cash nor will he be top on anyone's FA list, so waiting a few days to see if you might get it guaranteed as part of a trade makes sense. i could see that for beasley in our case maybe. i think he played himself into tpmle territory, and his one year is worth two years of that. probably worth waiting.

edit: hadn't seen that dallas just went ahead and guaranteed bullock, which i find very strange and indicative that a trade is coming.

Yeah but it's really case by case. If the players waits out, he might not get that contract guaranteed and then he only has vet min offers and maybe a few exceptions left from bad teams. It could play well too, so yeah it's a gamble on the player side. For the team it's only benefits

Let's hope Pelinka is able to get for either Beasley or Bamba
