they sold their own picks during the near-term, right? so they can afford to overpay vets while they figure out which young guys to keep. if i were mil/tor, i'd be concerned.

    Per Real GM's pick list:

So the rebuild does need to accelerate.

makes a lot of sense to make some big short-term payments to vets to be a play-in level team before you have to start paying all your lotto picks.

i'd offer brolo 2/40, fvv 3/90, and brooks 3/36 with a PO. all UFAs. get all three, and you probably aren't a bottom feeder next year or the year after. in the interim, your lotto picks sink or swim, and you make some choices.

With the draft behind us and a couple roster spots filled, time to start looking to the end of the week for free agency now that we have a little more clarity.

It seems we're heading towards the run it back path. So I'm looking at free agents under those parameters.

Who do you like? Where are you looking to spend our $5m? What minimums are you hoping to use to round out the roster? No Santa list cause he ain't real.

    Here's my realistic shopping list:
Bigs: Robin Lopez, Bismack Biyombo, Mason Plumlee, Dwight Powell, Tristan Thompson, Jeff Green, JaMychal Green
Wings: Stanley Johnson, Torrey Craig, Justice Winslow, Terrance Ross
    PG: Derrick Rose, Jevon Carter

I'm operating under the following assumptions:
    -Austin and Rui return
-DLO is back on a short deal ($19m a yr, 2 years)
    -Dennis leaves for more cash
-The only remaining unknowns are Mo and Beas. We'll have clarity on that before free agency begins.

Not ready to play out depth charts until that picture comes into focus regarding those two.

I like Biyombo because he's a bigger body and a good defender at center.Jevon carter would be my choice at PG if DS doesnt return. The wings dont impress me.

all the guys on your list only interest me at the minimum. i'd probably pay 5 for plumlee or powell, but their teams have their bird rights and will exceed that.

the suns really need to just keep biyombo (who i think loves it there and won't get big offers anywhere) and craig (who won't get an offer bigger than they can pay--they have early bird i think).

i feel like i can't evaluate FA until i know where rui and bamba are going to be. i know rui may be up in the air a while.

I like those. I think RoLo is washed now and we need a reliable backup big (Bamba or someone else). I'm fine if it's for the 3rd string, he helps the culture setting too

I shared this list a while ago with my favorite FA reclamation projects at the min:

    Keita-Bates Diop
    Thomas Bryant
    Eubanks
    Nowell
    Lyles
    Aaron Holiday
    K.Edwards
    Svi
    Watanabe
    Azubuike
    W. Hernangomez (if available)
    Knox (if available)

I imagine Watanabe won't be available at that price. KBD would be a steal imo. Eubanks and Lyles would be too good to be true

Towns is getting traded? Why would u pay all 3 C's these crazy $.
I would call POR and pair Dame with Edwards and Gobert.

funny, i thought opposite. didn't see why both teams wouldn't go for a towns/#3 swap. minny needs to admit that towns/gobert isn't a thing that will happen, and i think towns is a good enough talent to get dame to stop yapping about how loyal he is but just doesn't know how loyal but so loyal and really wants to stay but only under certain conditions...

Yeah, I don't really see any of them as MLE level players. I'm willing to dip into that to overpay for a big because the big market is awful this year and that's going to be the only way to get one in the competitive market. Like can you get one for $4m and hold on to the other $1m to extra spending power for buyout season.

I agree, I think the Suns have to hold on to as many of their FAs as possible. Go the Blake Griffin route and block the doors if necessary. With the Mavs, I think Powell might get squeezed out.
    Holmes: $12m
    Kleber: $11m
    McGee: $5.7m
    Lively: $4.8m
How much do they want to spend on a 4th big?

Agreed, he's definitely a situational and 3rd C. I think we need reinforcements this year at a position we neglected for most of last season.

Yeah, I think KAT is gone first. They can't give up Gobert after trading a zillion picks for him.

i think kleber plays some 4 there, and mcgee was deemed fully unplayable last year. add in that lively's a very raw rookie and powell is VERY popular within the organization, and i'd be surprised if they let him walk for anything tpmle or under.

KAT has been quietly disappointing for the last few years (21-22 was a brief return to form), and i think he needs a change of scenery. he's one i've had my eye on for the post-lebron years, actually. he expires after this year. this is part of why i think minny needs to trade him. i don't see him staying there, and if he signs an extension, they'll be in a beal situation.

Whether McGee was unplayable or not, he's a $5.7m salary that isn't going anywhere unless they attach assets to his contract. I think that's a convo they have with Kidd this summer is he has to find a way to play him. Cuban isn't paying him nearly $6m to be the 13th man. I think he has more value this year because he can teach Lively some things.

I think Lively is getting 15-20 minutes off the bench day 1. He's good enough defensively to give them that and offensively if they keep either guard in and run simple P&R action with him, it will work.

They might pay him that, I think they look more for value and minimum contracts because they still have a lot of holes and the payroll is about to go up after paying Kyrie. The team and fans like him a lot, but after a quick scrolling, Mavs twitter seem to value him at a minimum contract.

And for the daily Dame drama

Amick says Dame is meeting with the Blazers early this week to discuss the team's next steps and free agency. It was reiterated in the piece Dame wants to win now. Dame's dream acquisition for Portland is Dray (I don't see how that happens). If Dame gets the sense they're going to continue to scour the league for another star, Dame will wait to see how early FA plays out. If not, the trade request could be very soon (this week?)

Haynes also emphasized in his pod with Stein this AM that nothing has changed. Dame wants to contend for a 'ship now.

I believe Christian Wood is still In play for the Lakers. Obviously he is worth more than MLE but who is going to pay him 16-20mil? San Antonio maybe? Houston doesnt want him,Orlando doesn’t need him.Someone will get him for the MLE I believe

I think some team uses part of their non tax payer MLE to get him. Maybe not the entire thing because his value takes a hit because he's bounced around, doesn't defend, isn't a good teammate and is dumb. I think a team like Charlotte, maybe, gives him a deal in the $9-10m a year range.

Also, there's not a big I'm less interested in paying than Wood. Unless he's coming for the min, count me out. He's only empty stats.

I'm with you. I know him well because I had him in my fantasy team and he is the Westbrook of bigs. He's perfect for a tanking team so probably the Wizards sign him

I also doubt we will have the full MLE after paying everyone.
