Lakers Draft Day Prospects June 22, 2023

The one that got away?

 

The only thing I’m happy about is getting the Zubac replacement. The other picks seem “meh”

 

I thought the draft was fine. Our scouts have repeatedly proven themselves.

 

Let's keep this agent on our good side and have him keep telling his clients to decline being drafted and sign here. Maybe have our scouts slip him a list of guys we like next year who we think he should rep.

 

One can only wish that it's as much of a success story as his other client.

While on Irwin's draft recap pod, Aaron Larsuel said we had two guys on our board for #17 that we liked, thought would be there at 17 and neither were there.

Sounds like one of them we would've taken over JHS. His agent was even telling them he thought he'd be a Laker and didn't think the team that took him was going to take him.


Has to be someone from the Howard, Hawkins, Bufkin group. My guess is Howard. Other two were always in danger of going a couple picks earlier. But Howard at 11, no one saw that and he went later than our pick in a lot of mocks. Everyone had Magic pegged to take d*** for their shooting needs.

On LFR's pod, Trudell similarly said there were two guys the Lakers liked, JHS was one of them. The other was taken before we were on the clock.

Also said scouts were excited about the picks and the 2-way additions. He said that on Max, that's who he thinks we were after when we bought the pick. There might have been another guy they had in mind, but that they bought the pick to go get Max.

 

Call it a gut feeling. I didn't know we were targeting this kid, but if we were and we spent money like that to nab him, I feel even better about it.
