Pick was made by Mitch. He made it clear it's his call and from what I've heard from all the reporters in all the lands Mitch is more in power than ever over there. Jim is being turned mostly into a figurehead.
Even Jerry West said Russell was the best guy in the draft at one point, so I don't think it was getting cute.
Nailed it. The downside to this is that if he still decides to go elsewhere the FO embarrasses themselves for a 2nd time and the backlash would be even worse Seems like we dont have a closer
So Aldridge will giving the Lakers a 2nd meeting. I guess he really wants to come to the Lakers and this time wants to make sure the Lakers do it right. No more discussion about off court things like getting his own TV show on TWC or something. Discuss basketball.
Honestly, the draft pick is about the only thing that has happened this summer that no one in the media seems to be questioning.
Lakers will have 4.6 million in cap room, ~10 if they dump Young with a 2nd round pick (Which is completely doable considering the dumps so far). They need to get RoLo on the phone in that meeting and say look, you want 10 million to come play with LMA, we want you two together. Or get DJ on the phone and say we are willing to part with some one of our youngguyss in a sign and trade if either of you sign here... They can't just say Hey we screwed up, let's pitch this same team again. It has to be something new, PHX peaked his interest with Chandler, we can do the same with RoLo and a squad with them on it. Edit: Ed Davis signs with Portland, sign and trade with RoLo completely on the table still.
Look if our presentation before was that bad, he wouldn't want to listen anymore. If the presentation was so bad that he thought we had no shot at giving him a competitive roster, why even meet again? Just come out publicly with a "I don't know where all that stuff about the Lakers came from, their presentation was fine I just liked this place more. I think the world of the Lakers". Lip service is all he needed to pay us, not another meeting. They had to have called and given a plan. They HAVE to have something cooking. Right?...
@jerryr88 I disagree. We still offer the least of any team he was rumored with (except maybe NY). The fact that he agreed to a 2nd meeting is a good thing. Despite how crap we are, he's still somehow interested?
I personally don't believe it. IMO, that's Mitch taking one for the team. Jimmy boy can't take too many more Ls on his resume. Already hated by Laker fans worldwide. Mitch can take the jabs and still be looked upon favorably.
TRD definitely. These players are too busy and too narcissistic to setup another meeting to "mend egos"
Yeah I'm thinking along those lines too. Mitch wouldn't call back just to waste time. He's got to have a plan here. Even if it doesn't work, he's got to have SOMETHING to show LaMarcus that he didn't have before. That could mean trading our young guys too. Maybe even something like Randle/Davis for Robin Lopez...
Ahhhh still the same ol Jimmy Hate... Mitch gets the credit when stuff goes right and Jim gets the book thrown at him when less satisfactory things occur
Really? I've been calling for him to get fired this summer too. I'm not sure Mitch's position is as sturdy as that.
Lakers get a second meeting and now all the national guys are out to lunch? Where ya'll at? Kennedy, Stein, Yannis Douchebagitis, where are you guys to s*** on the Lakers for stupidly going into a doomed second meeting?
