Harden is just using Houston (and now maybe Phoenix) to extract every cent possible from Philly IMO. Would be kind of hilarious to see the Rockets use their cap space on Harden or VanVleet or whomever to still finish like 12th in the West. I think Fertitta is a pretty bad owner and that team could find themselves in a bad place for a long time.

many of the guys you named weren't on minimums--miami had haslem, miller, and battier all on on-vet mins, for example. they were all basically full MLE players (12 per right now).

iggy was making more than twice the mle when gs got him, looney wasn't on a minimum once his rookie contract was up, livingston was an mle, iirc.

point is: it's rare to get more than one useful guy on a vet min.

i believe that harden would want to got to phx. i believe phx would want him (splashy). i'm curious as to what third team will take ayton AND deliver something to philly that keeps them a contending level team.

Wizards? Philly wanted Beal before, they can get him now. Not sure if Ayton and Porzingis can play together though, although maybe they'd look to move on from Porzingis anyway with Winger in charge there now.

don't think it would happen, but porzingis and embiid as twin towers (faulty towers?) could, in theory, work. both guys are good enough shooters, and kp would probably rather play a pf spot on both ends. would require zinger opting in, though, which i'm not sure he does. maybe if the market doesn't look great.

sort of enjoying that morey and harden are having a showdown, though.

I've kind of talked myself into it tbh.

It seems likely the most likely path for us was to re-sign DLo for something like $20-25 million APY, and then let one of Beasley or Bamba go to avoid running up against that second apron. If you could get CP3 for the minimum though (BIG IF), you could still re-sign Dennis with the TPMLE, let DLo walk, and now keep both Beasley and Bamba to use in a trade. I think that still keeps us under the second apron, and I think Beasley and Bamba's combined $27ish million expiring would be more attractive around the league than DLo's $20-25 per year through at least 2024-2025. Maybe their expirings plus a pick get us Hield, or Turner, or another wing.

Lol..you are relentless on this subject. It still depends on the situation and the players involved. You can most definitely, win a chip with minimum salary guys in your rotation. We won a chip like that. Rookie contracts are low dollar amounts too. Rondo, Dwight vet mins, Kief buyout pickup, Kuz and Caruso on rookie deals. It can definitely be done, you just don’t plan on doing it, for 4 seasons in a row or something.

I get the point that vet mins usually means lower end talent. It just not an absolute thing, about not being able to win with that.

i knew the other 4 were in trouble, but i forgot about NO:

yipes! if this was about the lakers, it would be a quote from a "rival executive". this is them saying it!

paul on one leg and playing half his games is better than russ.

Dame is about to be on the move soon..he did an interview saying that he's waiting to see what happens with the draft. Who can Portland reasonably get in order to be a legit contender with the 3rd pick? Nobody IMO

If Ayton gets traded, we might work in a 3 team scenario

    LA gets Ayton
    Phil gets Russell
    Suns get Harden

would we want Ayton? Does he fit next to AD? Would Philly like DLO as a Harden replacement, or can they do better? If we get Paul on the cheap, has he burned bridges with Ayton?
