I think it has more to do with Austin being a Laker and the Philippines is majority a Laker country. He’ll be absolutely mobbed here. It’s more promotional and for box office than anything else.
It's phenomenal for his international brand. Getting that exposure while a Laker is invaluable for his career. There's no guarantees he'll be on Team USA in 2 years or that he'll still be a Laker (if he takes a 2 year deal this summer, he might price out of what we can do in 2025). Great decision by him and his agent, they're kicking a** at every decision that's been in front of them since draft night. Let's hope that continues this summer for an option that's best for him and for the Lakers.
