To my limited knowledge from what I have read here they would have to be serious and have the average cap space this year for the beginning of that high or max contract to sign him. Which as we know the Lakers can match with a back loaded 2 years of same contract. But there’s a danger involved for the team trying to take him in that their cap space (for that offer) is tied up at the start of free agency when the competition is highest for the most sought after free agents UNTIL the Lakers match it or let him go, Anyone know how long that period is for that the Lakers have to match?
Wow that would make it a huge gamble for any team to try to just do it to mess with us, if true. I was thinking even 2 days, if it's a serious hoping to be in the title chase hunt Team, would be risky while the Lakers could screw them back by not answering immediately and keeping their money tied up from getting other desirable players next on their list. Edit .... got off my butt and looked it up. So would guess the current time period of 4 days will still be in place until the new CBA goes into effect. When would that be, next year in 2024? roughly, yes. and again, lebron will be retired when that 38 million comes due. it's a no-brainer to me. worst case, you have a silly salary structure during what are likely to be bridge/rebuilding years, anyway.
getting a 100M contract is almost unreal for anyone that comes from a poor to middle-class background. that's generational wealth right there. happy for the kid, he worked his socks off.
Austin is a great player, represents the team well, a fan favorite and easy to cheer for. Next season the Steve Nash comparisons will be easy to see but with defense. By the time the 38 mil kicks in we will think that is cheap. You can tell listening to him talk he is ready to bust out. With Austin, Max and Rui applying defensive pressure and Lebron and AD backing them up. This is going to be fun to watch. The only thing that makes me concerned is Ham wanting to stick DS in there. His best role is off the bench which he is good at.

how do people who do this for a living not understand the rules? um, no, it freaking won't. reaves's salary next year is basically set in stone. a max offer from houston does nothing to that, jake, as you go on to explain in the next paragraph but somehow still fail to understand. what will prevent the use of the full mle isn't reaves's contract, but the likely matching of rui and all of the other bird rights moves we make. reaves's contract is the least relevant aspect of next year's roster planning. it, along with AD, lebron, and (i assume) vando's contract are on the books at an exact number that we already know.
