i'm curious to see how this goes down. i felt like his pay cut last year was a wink wink with morey, such that he was promised he'll get an offer from them in a certain range. i wonder if morey went back on it and harden's group is putting houston out as a legitimate possibility for leverage.

as we discussed elsewhere, houston could move its 4th overall pick + one of green/porter and probably get at least a semi star back. would harden view being the primary scorer on such a team as a "competitive" roster? if he could bring his buddy pj?

my guess is they're shopping him super hard. just cutting him does them no good, as they're on the hook for the remaining 15, which counts against the cap and takes them out of the running for any impact FAs even if they dumped ayton for no returning salary. picking up his year was sort of a no-brainer.

i'm still thinking of some mega deal where both paul and ayton go out, though i suppose it would be simpler to trade them separately. i just don't know if paul can bring back what they would need by himself. and their cupboard is bare otherwise.

 

I wouldn’t say I’m “in a hurry to ship them out” lol. Vando has been very good for us, I like Vando. The reality is he’s gotten less and less minutes in each series so far because, as good teams adjust, his lack of offense has hurt the starting unit more than his defense has helped them. That’s not really debatable.

Is a legit defensive specialist on a $4 million per year contract really valuable? Yes, you bet. But we may have one or two decent sized expiring contracts next year (Beasley and Bamba) that should be pretty movable. If Vando plus either of those guys gets you a more matchup proof wing, you almost half to do it. Anunoby, Finney-Smith, guys like that. There aren’t many of them so this is probably a moot point, but the playoffs are about having as many matchup proof guys as possible. That’s why Reaves is so valuable, he’s at least pretty good at just about everything.

Absolutely.
This group is great. We are playing the best basketball of the league. We are miles away where we were in February, so you just run it back with the most amount of guys and replace the rest with mins and exceptions.

Vando at 4 million is a steal. I don't see why we should trade him. His current value is probably a first rounder at best, and I'd rather have him, especially with that contract.

if Rob wants to improve, resign Bamba and Beasley and trade them for another piece or two that can be a part of a playoff rotation.

 

The Golden State Warriors and president of basketball operations Bob Myers have had no substantial contract extension talks in months and the sides are bracing for the likelihood that Myers could walk away from the franchise, league sources told The Athletic. His contract is up on June 30.

Both sides exchanged offers and counter-offers several months ago, and there has since been no traction on a new deal, league sources say. The Warriors have not yet presented an offer that has blown Myers away, but there’s also a growing sense that even a competitive market offer — near the top of the executive food chain — may not keep Myers with the franchise that he joined in April 2011 as an assistant general manager before his promotion to GM in April 2012.

Myers — the architect of four NBAchampionships over the past nine seasons — has received significant interest for lucrative positions with private equity funds and roles within other pro sports leagues, sources added. There’s a possibility that Myers could work in media after his contract expires in June. He dipped his toes into the podcast world this past year.

Myers is expected to formally announce the decision on his Warriors future in the coming weeks. That time could include some weighty conversations with Steph Curry, Draymond Green, Klay Thompson and Steve Kerr — four franchise legends who have all been vocal in their desire to keep Myers, another organizational pillar, as the leading voice of the front office.

This is a vital summer for the Warriors. Green has a player option for $27.6 million and could test free agency in July. Thompson has one year and $43.2 million left on his deal. That’s all mixed into a rising salary and luxury tax bill — attached to increased CBA penalties — that could rocket the Warriors into a $400 million-and-beyond tier owner Joe Lacob has previously said he wouldn’t touch.

So the questions are urgent. What multiyear number could make sense for Green? Can a reasonable contract extension be broached with Thompson? Does anyone — perhaps Jordan Poole and his rising salary — need to be moved to make it financially feasible? What does Curry think about it all? Or how about Kerr, who is entering the final season of his deal?

But what’s most urgent: Who exactly will be making the final decisions in the Warriors’ front office?

“Our organization has a lot to sort through this summer,” Kerr said Tuesday. “My contract situation is not, nor should it be, at the top of the list. Right now Bob’s contract situation is No. 1 because that influences a lot of the player decisions that have to be made, contracts, draft, free agency. We will get to my stuff whenever that happens and I’m in no rush for that.”

Mike Dunleavy Jr. represented the Warriors in the general manager meetings in Chicago this week. That isn’t abnormal. Dunleavy has stood in for Myers in several other day-to-day meetings and capacities during the last year. It’s part of the reason Dunleavy is viewed as the natural successor to Myers, should he walk away, a possibility that appears to be increasing in likelihood.

 

yeah, vando's going to be a useful 25mpg player for 82 games and win us a couple playoff games (like he has this year). him plus beasley isn't getting you anunoby or any of the other, like, 4 two-way wings available league-wide.

so yeah, if boston offers me tatum for vando and beasley, yeah, i'm trading him. what i'm pushing back against is all this "vando is unplayable" stuff. that's not true. we were rightly making fun of two teams who came to that conclusion because they cared more about offense than defense. once again, a twitter analyst has decided to harp on something, and it's become gospel. we better not move vando unless a bona fide star is coming back.

 

Every team needs a "Vando like" player (at least one, that wants to win). If he could shoot, he would be making 25-30mil a year, so that's that.

 

And Vando can very well spend the summer working on a jumper
