So glad to have baseball back too! The youngins are certainly making a name for themselves out there. Outman plays with a passion that I just love to see, nothing that advanced stats can ever measure. Pitching has been phenomenal overall right out of the gate, save for the usual hiccups here and there. If Will Smith doesn’t make the all-star game yet again with his annual 130+ OPS+, I dunno what to tell ya.
All I know is if I am pitching for the Dodgers I want to pitch on the odd game days. I mean 30+ runs scored vs 2. That is crazy.
Heyward has been a very nice surprise. Will Smith may finish with 100 home runs at this pace. :Ellington On Fire:
I think the dodgers coaching really knows how to teach pitching and hitting. They don't just bring guys back and watch them do better they bring guys back and watch them excel. Heyward is making great contact with the ball. Im loving seeing the contact these guys are getting. Plus the patience of the two kids. Man those dudes have veteran presence at the plate. I do think the dodgers go the way Max Muncy goes though. He needs to find his simple stroke back and, for the love of good, stop missing the hoppers at 3rd.
if you gonna get one its a good shot Kimbrel giving it up. That was a blast and an awesome way to sweep Trae Turner and his boys. Max is the one, when he is hitting like himself, that will benefit most from the no shift rule. He laces shots into the gaps that the shift swallowed up for years. I see his On Base Percentage going way up if he is swinging like he has been lately
2 months later and now we are at the all star break. Given how free agency went, feels like this year seemed to be more of a retooling with short contracts to give Ohtani a blank check. Pitching has taken a major regression from last year. Feels like nearly every pitcher has had a problem with injuries or being garbage, especially Syndergaard. Some of the rookies (Miller, Sheehan) have shown their talent while filling in for the injuries. I guess we will see if they can make moves for this like how they got Chris Martin last year. The offense has been pretty hot during this recent 4 game winning streak to take us to the top of the NL West again. Just ask the Angels and how many HRs they suffered! Mookie has been lights out and the pickups (Rojas, Heyward, and Peralta) have been good moves. Glad to see them send down Miguel Vargas to AAA for more time to fix himself because he just strikes out like Austin Barnes. Anyone going to try to get the Lebron Dodgers Bobblehead in August?
Laker fan from the days of Garvey Lopes Russell Cey Baker Thomas a lot of fun to watch. Baseball lost me with the last strike and I never went back. It worked out well so now I only follow one sport a year and one team. Mine is the Lakers. Nice that we no longer suck. But my favorite color is still Dodger Blue!
Trade deadline over and well yeah, that was disappointing. Desperately needed starting pitching and failed to get Verlander and E Rodriguez given their no trade clauses. Overall, getting Kike and Kelly back, Rosario, Lynn, and Yarbrough isn't the worst thing in the world. But betting on the coaching staff to improve their hitting and pitching. Guarded about how this team will do deeper in the season as we're going to need some hot pitching to make a run.
yeah but have you seen what Cody Bellinger is doing this year? Hitting .324 with 20 hr. Back to his old self, if he would have done this in LA, he would still be here. WTF!!!
I got out of baseball when that fool, Frank McCourt, bought the team. He ran this team into the ground. I like the Guggenheim ownership but don't really understand who controls things. All I ever really care about with any team to support them is are they really trying to win and are they capable of putting it together. I live in San Diego, the Padres have always traditionally been happy to sell hotdogs. They never cared about winning. The newest owner is Seidler, who is closely related to the O'Malley's, which gives me hope for them, but so far, they have underperformed.
Im happy for Cody. The kid has all the talent in the world. I don't think he would ever get it back while swirling down the drain in LA. He needed a change and to be out of the bright lights of LA. It took him awhile to get it going but he is def playing like his old self. I think James replaced Cody exceptionally well. Now we don't know what the kid will do in the post season. As with Cody we knew his post season game. In the end, Cody had to go for both himself and the team.
OH CRAP!! https://theathletic.com/4832214/2023/09/04/julio-urias-arrest-dodgers/?source=user_shared_article Plus didn't realize this is a 2nd strike with relation to domestic violence. Totally effs the Dodgers again just like Trevor Bauer. They can't cut ties with one but hang onto another. He's a FA after this season. Doubt MLB or the Dodgers now will allow him to pitch again this season.
Julio has not been good this year and I think would've gotten exposed in the playoffs. He's definitely gone, probably to Japan like Bauer or Mexico. The rotation is looking questionable with this, Kershaw's shoulder not being 100%, and Gonsolin needing TJ. Basically leaves Lance Lynn and a bunch of rookies. But Bobby Miller has been great and Pepiot was perfect through 6 2/3 IP vs. the Marlins yesterday.
The kids might be the blessing in disguise for us in the playoffs. We have gone into the playoff with super squad and failed. Maybe the kids will be to naïve enough to not know any better. Too much to ask for some Fernado Mania?
