according to this recent article, the max he can be offered is 4/100, which can be structured like this:

    • Year 1: $11,368,000 (non-taxpayer mid-level exception)
    • Year 2: $11,936,400 (five percent raise)
    • Year 3: $36,850,000 (as if he were paid the maximum in years 1 and 2)
    • Year 4: $38,525,000 (4.5 percent raise)
    • Total: $98,679,400
so, yeah, no brainer, and i think his agent will have to call in a favor to get someone to offer it, as it's just tying up their space for a couple days.

and i'm not sure we don't want that full max arenas offer to come, tbh.

from reaves's perspective, if he were to REALLY bet on himself, he stands to potentially make more by taking the 2 year/25 million with a player option on year two, at which point he'd be eligible for a 4-year max as an unrestricted FA next year (!). with the arenas provision, he can't get his max until the third year of the deal, so he's missing out on some early money.

even if he doesn't command max as a UFA next year, if he took the 12 and then signed a 4/120, he's coming out richer over the next 4 years.

anything that yielded more than 86 million over the first three years of the next contract puts him ahead.

obviously, he's risking injury or regression, too, though.

so, yeah, i think we want the RFA offer to come, as does he.

Nice breakdown. Yeah, I think both us and him would want the RFA offer. 1st time for him making huge money, you'd want to lock up those 3rd & 4th years, for just in case scenarios. Still young enough to bet on yourself by getting an outrageously large contract at the end of this one.

Ireland: I was coming out of the elevator today and ran into Austin Reaves. I asked him how he's feeling, and he said "We need to play like we got our a**** kicked in Game 1."

Love it. Kid is dialed in. Hope the rest of the team feels the same way.

Bron's gonna cost. He got his split. Let's hope AR's gonna save us.

Kam bros had Howard Beck on their pod. He said he's spoken to some scouts across the league, mainly Eastern Conference teams and they think Austin's value is around $17m a year.

If true, that would yield a 11/12/22/23 contract for 4/68, which I would jump at. I think he's going to get more though. (And will deserve it.)

his value has to be near 20 per, all things considered. he's a legit starter who can shoot and make plays, and he's not a minus defender. those are expensive.

per my post above, what i'm curious about is whether some team will actually test us on it. i mean, a 4/68 would get matched immediately. it would take the 4/100 to even make us squirm, imo. and i think it's such a low percentage move that he might be forced to just take the most we can offer with a quick ETO, which is sort of what THT did. reaves would probably opt for less guaranteed because his value is already higher, though.

Did his family and friends not make it back out for this one?

Felt like not getting the call bothered him again.

Also, that pass to Bron might have been a top 3 pass of his career.

That was a thing of beauty. Wish Lebron had made that one.

So, not sure if he was HIM tonight really. Kind of a weak HIM.

I'm holding out hope it'll be Kobe on the cover with it being 24 and all. If not the main cover, at least an alternate.
