This guy right here got us to the playoffs and this game 1 W.
Can't get enough credit, what a mastermind.

4 Lakers with +20 and Dlo with 19. Great depth, Beasley barely out of the rotation, Gabriel, Lonnie and Max don't even see the floor and they were combining like 50 minutes a few months ago

right?! not sure how the narrative gets to be "the lakers can't trade westbrook for anything ever and they're dead" and then shift to something like "meh, i guess they did ok". um, no. had daryl morey done this, they might have canceled the season and just given his team the trophy.

    Yup, what a great turnaround.

Also, LMAO @ playing Matt Ryan more minutes than Austin Mother f***in' Reaves.

Also playing PatBev, Nunn & Walker all more minutes than Reaves, and Toscano almost the same.

removing bev and russ (and nunn?) from ham's greedy little fingers was almost as useful as all the talent upgrades!

Never has the phrase 'addition by subtraction' been so true. Let alone 'addition by both addition AND subtraction!'

I don't trust Pelinka's judgement. He has made some insanely dumb moves....

First getting like 10 players above 35...then another year putting a roster together with zero shooters.

I absolutely think this deadline, he just became lucky it worked out. I don't think he planned things to be this way.

first he needed to stop listening to magic, then he needed to stop listening to lebron.

i wouldn't call the deadline luck at all. he was under immense pressure to make worse deals both in the summer and earlier in the season. simply not making those deals was already good judgment. he might have gotten lucky that others didn't step in and offer more than we did for who we got, but that could be said for pretty much every deal ever.

Little bit of column A, little bit of column B.

The man did willingly trade for Patrick Beverley.

on the court, bev was sadly an upgrade on THT (on our roster), and he was an expiring, which allowed us to move off him. i think that deal was as much about flexibility for future trades as it was about adding beverley.

Sure, but if we're backtracking to THT, then we also have to point to Rob picking THT over Caruso.

I'm not saying he's terrible, not saying he's incredible, I'm saying the evidence points to little bit of column A little bit of column B. I highly doubt Pelinka thought at the start of the year that he was going to end up with DLo, Vando, and Beasley or equivalent. I think you're right that he made a good decision to pass on the terrible offers pre-season, but wasn't necessarily thinking he'd get something this good, and ended up with the Pelinka Miracle a little bit due to good judgment and a little bit due to luck.

I have to give him a pass on Caruso. That call was made by Jeanie who got cheap. They could have kept both AC and THT not chosen between them. Jeanie didn’t want to pay the tax.

I’m good with Rob now. He did a phenomenal job at the deadline. Also he and the scouting department finding Rui was not “luck.” That was a really brilliant stealth move. Also involving Minny in the Utah trade to get Dlo was shrewd. It was a great plan B to Kyrie who Lebron wanted us to go all in for. Plus getting Vando, Beas and Dlo for Russ and a protected 1st was a slam dunk. I don’t see any luck there either. I’ll forgive the Pat Bev for reasons that abeer3 said - THT ‘s contract didn’t seem to have much appeal whereas Bev’s expiring did.

Right, I blame Jeanie & the Busses for not keeping both. But once given her mandate, I blame Rob for picking THT over Caruso.

i'm also told rob loses all the negotiations, and in the deadline trade, the pick we gave up is top-4 protected and turns into seconds if it doesn't convey immediately. we also added no salary beyond next year, just in case things went terribly. it was more than luck.

Oh, I fully agree that it was more than luck, and Rob clearly did a great job. What I'm saying is that it was also a little luck. If Ainge had found another sucker, and Utah wasn't available to trade with - what would have been the likely outcome of a Westbrook trade? Hopefully decent, but nothing like what we got. All I'm saying is that what we got is a combo of good judgment and luck.

Denigrating Pelinka at this point is kind of like the black knight declaring it's ONLY a flesh wound!!

sure, but my point is that every deal involves a component of luck, both good and bad.
