the problem is his involvement on this level, imo. ballmer and lacob and tsai (well, mostly...) just sign the checks and let their folks work. cuban has to act like he knows stuff, and it hurts the organization. it's weird he doesn't recognize it, and until he does, they'll continue to squander top talents like dirk and luka. and luka isn't loyal, i'm betting. #keepthepowderdry

It looks like its going to be challenging to stay under the super tax and keep most of our players. Who would you all rather have: Beasley ($16,500,000) and a vet minimum player or Hachimura (resigned at a deal starting at $10,000,000) and the standard MLE ($7,021,000), which could be used on Brown or Bamba? Also, what do you think Beasley's value is on the free agent market? We could also look to sign him to a multi-year deal with a lesser annual salary. Since he is an elite shooter, I think he would stil'lbe pretry expensive, despite his struggles with us so far.

Lakers could also simply just ignore the super tax, and pick up the options on Beasley/Bamba, and re-sign Rui. At that point, the restrictions wouldn't be that bad any more. Our roster would be pretty stacked.

    1. We wouldn't care much about including cash in trades, because we don't have to buy a pick this year, due to us having three picks.

    2. Bamba/Rui are likely better than any standard-MLE player that might be available, so loosing that is not that big of a deal.

    3. Lakers likely wouldn't want to trade for more salary anyway. If anything, they might want to shed a little bit of salary in a trade.

    4. The 2027 and 2029 picks are still tradeable, since they are within 7 years.

    5. We won't be able to sign buyout players but that's not a big deal .

PG: Russell / Free Agent (Vet minimum player, maybe Aaron Holiday?) / 2nd round pick
SG: Reaves / Beasley / (Vet minimum player, maybe Walker?)
    SF: Vanderbilt / Christie
PF: James / Hachimura / 1st round pick (Murray? He's another 6-8 wing)
    C: Davis / Bamba / 2nd round pick

    I think it's a moo point.

There is no way owners agreed for it to go into place this off-season, especially when the details were hammered out AFTER the deadline. Word I've seen is "gradual" and still waiting for them to clarify what that means to them.

yeah, pretty sure this won't be in effect this summer, and after next year, it's possible our salary structure looks very different. we can afford to pay everyone this year and still have a lower payroll than gs/clips, i think.

Beasley has been bad sofar, but he is still a proven volume shooter of which there are not that many out there.

to let him go without getting anything of value in return would be shocking

if he's not retained, his contract will be moved for an upgrade, imo. i'd rather just exercise the option and keep us as a major deadline player with his and bamba's salary and some draft capital in our pocket.

Good to here. Total salary would be about 191.5 million, meaning we would be hard capped, which is fine.

I have it sort of shaking out like this if we bring back everybody who we have control over. Seems Lakers management just needs to decide on the three picks and two free agents.

    1 James $53,369,986
    2 Davis 40,600,080
    3 Russell 33,000,000
    4 Beasley 16,500,000
    5 Hachimura 10,000,000
    6 Reaves 11,368,000
    7 Bamba 10,400,000
    8 Vanderbilt 4,698,000
    9 Christie 1,719,864
    10 15th pick 3,361,200
    11 Free Agent 2,132,833
    12 Free Agent 2,132,833
    13 #40 1,102,929
    14 #48 1,102,929

    Total Salary $191,488,654

i know most don't agree, and i might be dead wrong, but i think russell's starting number could be under 33.

and rui's contract situation will be interesting. he probably doesn't want to get locked into a lower number long-term, and nobody's going to offer a higher one at this stage, imo, so it wouldn't shock me if he plays for the QO next year.

if either of those things happen, it makes it possible we use the tax mle on schroder (assuming it's possible).

if things happen as you suggest above (very possible), i expect jeannie will be asking rob to cut costs via beasley and bamba trades, likely involving our pick. we could definitely get a rotation level player for expiring salary and our mid-first, and probably one on a friendly contract. not sure who that would be, but if bamba goes out, we need a credible backup center pretty badly, and if beasley goes out, lebron will be whining about lack of lasers again if someone who can shoot doesn't come back.

I would be surprised if it hit $30m, I think it should be right at $26m. Him missing games has helped shave a few off, I think. Unless we go on an epic post season run and he plays a large role in that, in which case that all changes and I'm fine with that.

I'm curious to see how they use these salary slots. You can replace a $10m center fairly easily. You can't replace a top 10 shooter though for cheap. I think Mo and something will be moved at next deadline for whatever upgrade we need at that time.

I mean that would be great if Russell could get less than 33, but that might be kind of wishful thinking. Chances are, Dlo is going to sign a two-year 67 million extension.

Seems fair to me. In a number of these games Reaves is outplaying him in multiple areas and has been more durable. If DLO wants to be HERE especially as he says. Now IF we are able to play at least one round in the playoffs and he steps up, then we negotiate accordingly. Can we back load a bit on a 3 year contract with him having the PO? And screw you Mintz if you're harboring any kind of a grudge. Do what's good for your client, considering his personality, looks and chances for external money in the L.A. market. Magic was your huckleberry back in the day with Randle. My personal opinion is he had last say on any moves done or not done.

What other teams might start him at 30M, let alone 33M? We might need to respectfully let him check first, and then both sides figure out if possible additional money is worth it for him to leave for some other city, or for the Lakers to retain him here if he is willing to do that.

I’m sorry, but DLO’s not worth $30 million per. Mid 20s is what he should be getting.

I’m wondering if we bring Lonnie back as well just for the salary spot. Beasley, Lonnie and Bamba would be a total salary of 33-34m? We could bring back 120% of that?

    That’s a considerable trade target.

that would be very unusual for our ownership group, even if it does make sense.
