Don't love AR15, but it's a hell of a lot better than Hillbilly Kobe. Mayo Kobe is also atrocious. Billy Mac and Worthy call him Riverboat Reaves, which isn't bad. Kobe's first nickname was Showboat after all
We need to find out what his team calls him internally …. has to be something other than just Austin.
I see what Jay Will is trying to say...but AR has played so well next to LeBron that I'm not worried about that at all. He's stepping up in LeBron's absence, but LeBron coming back should only HELP Reaves be even better. I think what will happen is that when we get closer to play-in / playoffs, you will probably see AR play a lot more minutes like he did last night. Somewhere in the 35+ range, depending on if he's still cooking or not. A closing lineup for AD LeBron Vando AR D-Lo is what I want to see. Both sides of the ball are covered with this lineup. Everyone can switch too and there's nobody below 6'4 out there now.
You should get on the horn with “Deep Throat” and find out what the team and coaches DO call Austin internally.
At least Kirilenko's AK-47 (also known as "Avtomat Kalashnikova," which is a Russian weapon) was the first bball nickname (AFAIK) that uses this concept. So there was at least something clever about it. AR-15 isn't very interesting, I agree there. It's been done. Hillbilly Kobe is bad, and we'll keep searching until we find something as good as Bald Eagle.
The absolute worst has to be "PG-13," which is synonymous with milquetoast, non-threatening, and suitable for minors. But I digress . . .
yeah, in the other thread i wasn't trying to discredit him re: the FTAs, just understanding opponents' frustration. he's a legit tough cover. you going to devote your best wing defender to him? you better. he can't be ignored with or without the ball, and he can be trusted to generally make good, proactive decisions.
His handle is ridiculously good when he's a threat to shoot. It's not Kyrie level ill embarrass you if you try to guard me 90 feet but when he a threat to shoot the speed of the crossover makes him hard to guard as you can't lay off of him anywhere as he's a threat to score at all 3 levels. The handle makes up for the lack of explosion off the dribble
